Cycle with Ewan and Sarah up Glen Tanar to foot of Mount Keen. Carrying heavy pack (camping). Hard work, tired by end.

With Sarah, up Birse track, down to Glen Cat, up and over to Birse Castle, back over Fungle. Rainy and windy but very mild. Right shin tight at start but eased off, pain behind right knee for a while and calf also complaining gently by end.

4 x DAP gate to top gate. 4-10, 4-02, 3-53, 3-56. Started a bit reluctant, got into it and working hard on last 2.

Cycling with Ewan to and from school - on nearly finished Deeside Way, just waiting for dry weather (ha ha) to lay final layer of granite dust.

Cycle to Sluie and back. Tired at start, very tired on return

orienteering race 1:22:00 [5]

Sluie event. Brown course 8.6km. Tired at start, tried to attack the course, but struggling from early on. Very tired by end and didn't appreciate the run in - 375m uphill! Still - it was good training. Calf felt a bit of a dull ache most of the way, but no sharp pains - an improvement?

Aboyne to Tarland and back - for official opening of Tarland Way. Lots of cakes and cups of tea at McRobert Hall in Tarland, then cruise back. Pleasant day - a little drizzle but mostly dry. Calf feeling a bit swollen but not apinful - I think recovery is not too far off now (famous last words!).

Home to Ballater with Sarah, by Deeside Way and back via South Deeside Road to Aboyne and railway line from there. A bit wet and muddy........

Intervals hills 16:00 [5]

Cistern track with Sarah, 4x4+4 (no not a Land-Rover), 4 mins up, jog down, start every 8 minutes x 4. Not enthusiastic as rain had just started, but set off and first one felt pretty awful, at end of second I felt a tiny pin prick of pain in my calf...... started third and calf was OK, so did 4th. Can feel a tired ache in calf after - but a healthy ache!
Good session, but need a lot more to get strength and speed back!

Out in Dess Woods - checking out parts of Deeside way and then loop anticlockwise to fields and back thru woods. Legs heavy at start but improved as run went on. Calf mostly OK - amazing that a 2 hour O race seems to have helped it!

Long night Jukola. Started a bit scrappy but got into good rhythm, then sped up with pack and promptly lost 2 - 3 mins! Got tired and a few more little errors. Satisfied with time. Team Maroc did fantastically - 436(subject to corrections!) and with 5 Scandi virgins!

short warm up - saving energy for 14.3km course.
Calf OK - possibly double ibuprofen dose helped.

steady on line at Jukola training, then a few controls. Calf tender and awkward. Soaked it in cold lake for 30 mins

Easy run with team at hotel in Helsinki. Calf not great but seemed to ease off after stretching. Fingers crossed it'll keep improving unril Sunday morning.

Hanging and collecting controls for Kincardine O'Neil school O. 10 pupils from older class - most managed OK. Calf still tweaking a bit on hanging, but had eased off by time for collecting. Visited physio - some harsh massage and things definitely eased. Time to take it easy before long night on Sunday morning. Must start doing stretching and strengthening exercises more consistently.

Wee jog round Hill of Banchory. Knees fine now, but calf still aching and feeling awkward.

Home to Kinker and back - to watch Olympic Torch - strangely anti-climactic seeing a small unfit person struggling along the road swamped by large vehicles and (also struggling) police runners. The police motorbikes (can't be any left anywhere in Scotland) and sponsors vehicles were bigger and more impressive.
There's also a major sponsorship opportunity for some entrepreneur - sports bras - the Kinker runner really would have benefitted from one ;-)

Home via Deeside Activity Park to railway line, along to Aboyne Loch, up to Mortlich (2 x hard efforts on climb) and back via direct track and waded Dess Burn at end (good for cooling calf. Calf was niggling the whole way but tweaked a bit near the end when "railway Buzz" made a pass at me and I twisted round to keep track of his dive.
Not too bad now, 5 hours later, but need to get something done - it's been going on for weeks now.

Intervals intervals 7:40 [5]

1 x 2 min effort on lower Mortlich hill and 1 x 5-40 effort from gate to top. Calf not great - not able to toe off so hobbling a bit - still left leg got a good work out!

Welcome back to stretching again - must try to be consistent! Things have slipped a lot over the past 2 months... can't think why!

With Sarah and Ewan from Keiloch west along road and track. Track got very rough and unpleasant at end, so turned back. Pleasant cycle.

Long run with Sarah - Pottties to Shooting Greens then along ridge to Tom's Cairn (no path and very slow!!), along to Corsedarder stone and back via tarmac on south side of Ballogie. Nice run and steady pace. Legs tired but calf seems OK.

6 x 1 minute on Fungle - thought I'd try a harder session and test calf. I t held out OK - can feel things a bit snaggly inside while running but no pain after. No heel raises, so must be getting better.

Aboyne Scout hut to Fungle for hills and back via Aboyne Green - did 6 lengths of football pitch barefoot - time to see what Sarah is raving about! Felt OK but nothing special.

Run round Dess Wood loop, cowshit alley and bull-evard with Helen. Very wet and buzzard showed an interest. Feeling tired in legs but breathing OK. Calf feeling a bit tight, but possibly due to heel raises - must try without.

Not sure of time (not in results) - running an Orange course for 8th Maroc junior team (36- age group) - to make up numbers. Not sure how many times the team could have been disqualified, but probably more than 4! Nice course, straight line was pretty technical so a decent race.
