orienteering race 55:00 [5]

Balnagowan, Maroc district event. Brown, 7.4km. Pushed hard despite feeling very tired from hard week (and some morning gardening). A couple of wobbles in the circle - couldn't see the controls!
Finished 4th (Ewan McCarthy, Felix, and Josh 50 seconds ahead. Fairly pleased with result. Knees didn't hurt badly - need to persist with strengthening exercises for next while.

A deecent bit of steady running to warm up - could have done with some in terrain but no time as testing a "time start" system for SOC.

Run with Sarah from cottage car park on Shooting Greens road down to river bank path and along to tarmac road, up through plantation to Scolty, push up hill then across open to Hill of Goach and plod out to SG car park and down Deeisde Way to car.

pace run hills 7:00 [4]

Effort up Scolty, not flat out but steady push. Feeling better on uphill than downhill - knees not great. Got visit to orthopaedic clinic this afternoon, so good to get a long run in to ensure knees tired!

Test running a course for SOC relays at Creag Choinnich. Enjoyed it - forest mostly runnable and controls clear.

Home to Aboyne garage to pick up car after service. Planned to cross Dess burn, but even at the ford it was waist deep, so no go! Old railway line more of a river in places.

Checking map amendments on Creag Choinnmich - ca 40 mins and Glen Feardar ca 2 hours. Tired and feeling heavy legged - pilates? rain came on in GF then stopped when i got to top of hill, to be replaced by ..... snow! Areas looking good but a little damp in places ;-)

Short warm-up with Talent Squad and collecting controls at Balnagowan. Lovely forest and not trashed by forestry vehicles.

Intervals hills 12:00 [5]

3x4mins (HP hill), 4-06, 4-08, 4-04. Track very muddy and rutted in places due to logging vehicles. Feeling fairly tired still.

steady run warm up/down 33:00 [3]

Warm-up via waterfall (looking impressive after all this weeks rain!) and lower track. Back via P-B area and dung-heap grove. Lots of tractor wallows from logging and forwarder..... it'll take a while for Dess to recover.

Dess Wood in terrain checking trashed forest (forwarder been in on a wet week....) and cow-shit alley and bullyvard return. Track overgrown with broom been flailed so decent route again. feeling better by end than at start, but got wet - first time this week!

Survey 5 hours Donard Forest. Finish new area and check some of recent map (pretty crap!). Not the world's best area by any stretch of the imagination...... But another dry week surveying in NI (4 weeks in last 2 years and about 2 hours of rain in total - we'll rent ourselves out to NI tourism board to make a fortune!

6 hours survey - Donard Forest. Still tough but base map some use and lots to write off (12 foot high brambles and thick young plantation/windblown.....) Couple of short showers but not wetting.

Middle Tollymore Road and back via Wild Forest Lane. Twisted left foot on verge - nothing too serious but annoying. Feeling dreadful - dizzy and light headed.

Dalbeattie SOL Short Brown. Tired and not inspired, 2nd control in wrong place - checked for 2 mins then headed off. Led race from start with Paddy W 2nd - but feeling dreadful - tired, heavy legged, uninspired.

JK Relay, Newtyle Hill, running last leg on M120+ class. Hard run - missed No 2 by following new made "path" rather than one mapped, lost ca 1-20 here. After this no real errors, a few hesitations and slow in some places reading quarries etc. Saw Rob H late on and worked very hard to catch him. Please with effort and mostly in control.

Bit of easy running and a few faster bits, legs feeling pretty tired.

JK Day 2, Craig a' Barns. M50L decent warm-up, but start area a little restricted! Good run, a bit hesitant for first 2-3 controls then got into racing and pretty happy at end. Knees were best they have been for a while descending the hill so perhaps the solution has been found by the physio. Finished 2nd to Bilbo (3 mins down...) and 2 mins ahead of Quentin H. Seems like BOC might be a goer after all!

Jog/walk (up steep bits) to start and some short strides/hills there plus some dynamic stretching.

Note

Setting out relay car park field after CaB, didn't leave till 7pm, late dinner and very late to bed, no time for stretching (and too full of food!).

JK Sprint, Livingston. Straight-forward course, no twists or hidden routes etc. No major time losses, a few hesitations and went round a wall once when it was actually crossable (couldn't see it clearly enough on map). Happy with 6th=. Feeling OK running but not at all fast or smooth.

Shooting Greens local event. Long course - 5.1km of tough forest and hill. Managed to hold O-ing together despite tiredness and even managed to run up some of the big hill! Course could have been nicer and more technical but good work out.
