Note

Surveying Dunalastair 4 hours. Finished all for this trip - still a small extension to add and a couple of corners to finish off.

Dess Woods with Sarah, then she turned back above Iain's and I carried on to fields. Heard a couple of buzzard calls when I got to the end of the track, climbed the fence and WHAM got hit on the head by the buzzard. Hanging controls in Bellwood for school orienteering, lovely warm sunny morning. Knee pretty good (though I was on good paths most of the way)

Easy jog round Hill of Banchory, drizzly and very wet undergrowth.

Pleasant session, using thera bands - working upper body quite a bit. Left knee Ok in all exercises.

With Ewan to white start, then jog to my start. felt dreadful, left knee very painful and feeling weak, legs tired and lethargic. Not in good state of mind at start - thinking about jacking rather than attacking course!

orienteering race 1:06:00 [5]

SOL Culbin, short Brown course, felt terrible physically and not clued in to O at start. Wobbled badly at 1 & 2, lost time at 4 & 6 then a few more wobbles. best bit was last 8-10 controls - just ran straight as hard as possible and picked off big features. Finished 4th, only 3 mins down - amazing it was so little, given I missed at least that amount!
Moral of this weekend - don't do 3 races in 40 hours - body can't cope with it.

Before Lossie event and shadowing Ewan round his yellow course. V tired at end, and hungry!!

Lossie urban race - started in Lossie Airbase - mostly straight forward, then into town. A few stupid errors - dead-ends and poor decisions. Eventually ran out of energy near end - too long since breakfast. Legs very sore, and left knee very painful - maybe an excuse to miss urban races...?

With Sarah, down to Potties and up to Shooting Green, then back via lower track and out to Deeside Way, back via Potties. Good ride, lovely sunny day

Deeside Sprint Cup, Bellwood. 3.1km, 17-55 (long time since I broke 6's in a forest event! felt great running - left knee almost pain free and lots of power on uphills. Ended up first - but only 19 secs ahead of Sasha.....

Deeside Runners at Glen Tanar, 7 x 2+1, feeling dreadful at start, but got into it, left knee fine, just lack of puff and leg speed limiting me (just!!).

Usual Braeloine to bridge warm-up, then 2 bridges loop with intervals, jog back with Dave H. Pissing rain by end - got a bit cold.

With Sarah and Ewan across to Deeside Activity Park (for a hot chocolate and fresh cheese scone, mmmmmmmm. Pretty technical and tough climbs for Ewan - he's coming on a treat on his bike.

Glen Tanar with Sarah & Ewan - Stable Yard to 2 bridges circuit, decent pace and fairly quick on return. Bod=y very tired from yesterday's efforts.

Glen Gairn to foot of Ben Avon, felt tough on way out (early and slight uphill and into wind), great whiz back. track not good for a lot of it - badly repaired and very bumpy and jarring whole body badly.

steady run 2:10:00 [3]

Up Ben Avon, a lot of walking on climb, but decent descent on small animal paths and quad bike tracks. Made the east top, but main summit too far away to get to and back from with time to pick up Ewan from school.
Stopped at Cambus Bridge on return and had a few minutes swimming in hte river. A group of guys (and 1 girl) bridge jumping... looked a long way down.
What a day - car reading 27.5C on drive back down Deeside. Nowhere better in the world on a day like this!

Physio visit - knee not structural but tightness/muscle imbalance, so a couple of exercises and some stretching/massage to do to try and help it.

pace run 58:00 [4]

Set off from Aboyne Green (dropped Ewan for Beavers), headed up Fungle and half way up decided to do hill race route - knew it would be tight for time so pushed on from here - knee a bit achy on hills and descents but nothing too bad, the real test will be sleeping tonight. Hot day- 27C on way to Aboyne.
