Orienteering Race race 47:42 [5]

West Point Middle

Well, at the start I realized I had forgotten my control description holder, so that was a good sign.

Mega face-plant on the way to 1 plus got pulled way too far down towards the Blue control. Long leg and the control many had trouble with was fine. Just not very fast, but in the right direction.

Then totally blew up at 9, guess I didn't go far enough, paniced and ran around in circles. Should have bailed out, made a new plan and went back in on a hard compass.

Note

Can barely put on shoes today so no training.

Bought a new suit instead.

Orienteering Race 1:13:46 [5] 7.4 km (9:58 / km)

Constance bay Long Advanced

Once one of my favourite Ottawa maps, it is still great in some spots, but with smaller trees growing up, it has a shelf life. I'm sure it is not fun later in the year, as well as lush with poison ivy.

The whole run wasn't great. First Orienteering of the year and managed to pull a big screw-up going from 2-3. Great. Throughout the day the rough compass really needs work so much drifting and not paying attention. A few times I realized what I had done and I had Stefan's voice in my head going "you need to check your compass".

About halfway around the course both heels started hurting and my left one really was killing me. Blisters. Awesome. By the southern loops I was limping and trying to keep Benoit in sight as he went through me.

At the car afterwards checked damage: massive open flesh wound on the left, also giant blister on the right. This will probably really impact West Point to say the least.

Constance Bay: it was used for a WOC Team Trials. Can anyone guess the year and guess the 4 Ottawa club members who qualified for WOC, with a 4th almost being qualified (note: not everyone accepted).
