Orienteering 27:30 [2] 2.4 km (11:27 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 300

VE with Kate.

I think she'll be able to the more open areas by herself next year, as she didn't need any help over the last two days - except some encouragement to jump the flowing watercourses.

Started with the rain and continued to get thoroughly soaked throughout the course. I saw Tom around 3 and Paul just after and figured he would probably catch me at some point. Went past Tom on the powerline track when he stopped to help someone. I was in a line with fletch and Komy as the rain come in big and cold along the track. No real nav issues apart from the usual small wobbles in and around the circle. Probably lost some time on 17 trying to play it safe and didn't really need to. Kept getting caught in the twists of the main creek line near the end.

Really tight times in the end, only about 18 seconds from 1st to 3rd. Enjoyed the relatively clean run.

Thanks to Rachel - it was a really good long dist champs style course.

Champs scorecard - GB 2, Juffy 1

Orienteering 47:16 [5] 5.62 km (8:25 / km) +143m 7:28 / km

Was puffing and blowing up the first hill and never really felt like I was on line. Landed in a suitable clearing that I hoped was the right one, but I was almost as far right as 2. Kind of expected to see Juffy as I headed back to 1, but that didn't happen until I was doubling back out of 4. Saw Tom B between 6 & 7 and then Juffy again as he headed into 6. On the way to 8 I think I saw Tom's hat in the bush heading back towards 7.

I fluffed 8 a bit where I took what seemed the best route but I couldn't see the right rock and checked a few others before Juffy sprinted in and helped me out. We tag teamed a bit for a couple of controls and then split a bit heading towards 10. I kept seeing Juffy about 50 -100m ahead until 14 when he disappeared. I was glad because I was then able to just run and concentrate and headed straight for 15. Just before the control I could see Juffy up high in the crap above the control and I was happy to get back ahead. Took the rest really carefully so as not to blow them out and went fairly smoothly to the finish.
