Note

Volunteered to set the May 12hr next year with JB (if they haven't already got setters).

WTF have I done??? Last time I did this I was a 19 year old Uni student with heaps of time on my hands!

NavDash race 22:54 [5] 2.9 km (7:54 / km)
shoes: Reebok Roadlite

Long at ECU NavDash

Smooth start up to #5 where I lost a bit of time not looking on the correct side of the wall. Only other mistake (other than optimal route choices) was at 17 when I thought the control was on the inside of the rectangle of buildings, so I made my way in via a gate only to soon realise I needed to be on the outside.

Enjoyed the course and the run.

Up at 5.20am and out by 5.45am with a lovely bacon cheesy - maybe the food situation had been sorted?

The morning route was south east to the big points - about 410 in 2hrs and then winding back in. All went really well, apart from being a bit left at 85. Luckily we felt like we were, so as we walked up the slope slightly south of the control we were looking out to the right and spotted it about 200m away.

Kept an eye on the time an we both thought if we were back in at 46 by 10.45am that we should extend the loop to add 64 and 33, which we did. We jog/walked to 64 and JB said his calf was starting to play up but he was able to push through it. Hit 33 with 20 minutes to do the 2km back to HH, so we jogged it to make sure and made it with five minutes to spare.

Managed our highest score ever of 2500pts and finished 6th overall, only 10 behind 5th and 80 behind 4th. Given we got our plan plus 90 pts, we were happy with the result.

Now for lunch. No bread, no rolls, no meat based stews. Oddly, plenty of bacon. My lunch was 5 bits of bacon, a piece of chocolate cake and half a piece of vanilla slice. Apparently the food order had been stuffed up, so absolutely no fault of the HH team, but still not a great way to finish a good event.

Speaking of which, we managed to shred a tyre on the track back to Albany Hwy. No big issue, except that JB's lock nut key for his alloy wheels had not been returned by the mechanic after a service, so we couldn't remove the wheel. Three hours later we had the car on a tow truck and we were home by 6pm. We had quite a few offers of help from other rogainers and I caught a lift down to Nth Bannister which meant we got the local towing number - although they came from Perth anyway.

Overall, a really good course and we were happy with our performance. we'll be back, surprise, surprise. JB also said he'd be interested in setting an event next year, so we may look at doing the May 12hr. Anyone keen to jump on board?
