Orienteering (Wandsworth Park Race) 32:12 [0] 5.85 km (5:30 / km) +14m 5:26 / km
ahr:174 max:185 shoes: Adidas Kanadia

Straightforward park race on Wandsworth Common, very fast. Could have saved a few seconds on 5 by going in later path, and came out of 11 in the wrong direction ending up on path by railway and bananaing back in. Surprised I could run as fast as I did after the weekend.

3rd woman after Helen and Henriette.

Slightly more respectable result today and finally a nice area to run in. Some actually runnable forest. Line start - 1 covered earth wall which control was on which wasn't helpful but found fine. Slightly low for 2. Apart from that fine and again had the surprise of having hardly any controls left.

Not sure this 21s thing has worked. Hamstring ok which was the aim but not really going any faster and finishing is generally a surprise. Think I'd basically like everything to be a middle race.

Started well with beating Vince to first control by going round the path rather than through the horrible brashings. First half of the course was basically like an orange course. 3 misses, 2 stupid one a little unlucky.

1) not being able to find platform next to path despite being stood next to it and hesitating.

2) bit of a bingo rootstock and went too far.

3) piece de resistance. nearly done and managed to navigate 13-14 despite being at 12. was contouring so still found 14 then realised hadn't been to 12. idiot. lost a good 5 minutes and respectable placing.

Finally got to urban race after a few hours of waiting for the AA to fix Vince's car. Started pretty well and running decent pace.

12-13 - should have gone high as control at top of slope.
14-15 - most irritating error, should have gone round the bottom rather than up and over the hill. noticed halfway to 15.
19 - top route into castle ok but overshot control.
20 - underneath bridge and only noticed when on top of it (tho still quite quick split compared to others.
22 - found 23 first and went back losing 30 secs.

Came 6th, could probably shaved off a good minute. frustrating.

Can barely remember this. Couldn't find a depression I was stood on top of. Should have gone round rather than contouring. Horrible brashings, which I can't run in.

Weekend Plan:
Dropped down to W21S as still wary of the hamstring but also am conscious that they speed I have at park & urban races drops significantly in terrain. Partly as my navigation is not amazing but also I seem to just drop any speed as soon as I hit the forest - thinking by running the shorter courses I might be able to push a bit more without just thinking "this is a long way I'd better take it steady" and see if my navigation can keep up.

Hopefully by writing it here I'll be held to it.

Climb with Kiwi Matt, I was a bit crap at first but started to get better once I got back into it. Have hardly any upper body strength at the moment but did just about spend more time climbing than chatting thsi time.
