D4 Storeskaget to Bygdin. Early start as we knew it was a long way. Had hummed and haaed over our route for the first section as to whether to follow the marked winter route or take our own straighter line with a gamble on snow quality. After setting off on the scooter track we changed minds again and went for it - turned out to be a great decision with some of the nicest snow we’ve found yet, and a much more interesting line. After 12km we reached one of the Beitostølen løype which had been freshly pisted, but sadly discovered that my touring skis are too wide for the cut track, causing stupid amounts of braking friction as they scrubbed along the sides. Middle of the piste was faster but a lot more effort to ski. Took another short cut after a few km, which gave a fun traverse onto a shoulder, but then we found ourselves amongst steep crud and rock with no easy way back down to the løype. A bit of ski carrying ensued to get us back on track. After that it was a slightly tedious 11km of track to Bygdin, albeit with some great views into the bigger mountains. Pretty stuffed by the time we reached the hotel, but beer in the sun, looking out over the lake and mountains, soon dulled the pain.
Another grand day all round :-)
