Lairig Ghru race. 1st FV50.
Set off steady along the road but not feeling good and seemed like I was gong really slowly. Left calf feeling tight from the get go, which was a worry. Pleasantly surprised to be at Derry Lodge in 77' but continued to feel more effort than it should and stomach wasn't great either. Nice to see K+RC at Luibeg - first of many Deesiders supporting on the other side of the hill. Started to feel a bit better by the descent towards Corrour and once I started going past people my spirits lifted. Climb up to the pools was good and legs still felt like they had some good manouverability. Past the spot where I cramped last time - tick. Felt great on most of the descent to CC footbridge passing a good few more. Swung my feet up onto the bridge to avoid the cramp from 2 races ago - tick. Kept pace up pretty well out to the road, passing a fair few broken guys in the process. The last couple of miles on the tarmac was tough but soon over.
So so happy to finish the race feeling as good as I think I ever have on something of this length and some 7' quicker than in 2013 :-) Lots of aches but no major damage. Great confidence booster.
For the record... splits (est from Strava)
To DL 13.7km 1:16
To high point 13.6km 1:54
To CC bridge 8.2km 1:03
To finish 7.2km 0:39
Interesting comparison with 2013
