Much brighter morning in Lochinver, so drove round to Achiltibuie for an attempt on Ben More Coigach. Snow on all the tops above 600m or so and Assynt looking just stunning. Parked at the road end then a short sharp climb onto the ridge. Got a bit interesting once we got above the snow line, but not so bad when we stuck to the ridge. Stunning views in towards Assynt as well as across to An Teallach and Torridon, and out to the Hebrides. Short on time, so only made it to the first top, 2m short of the peak at the north end of the ridge. Will need to come back sometime to do the full traverse. Out for 2.5h.

Saturday Feb 4, 2017 #

Got dropped at the west end of Loch Assynt to run over to Lochinver. Full waterproofs on from the start and never took anything off. Was a bit hot and awkward for running, but good to keep vaguely dry. Equally as wet from below for the first 5km but then got onto a better track. Actually really enjoyed it, but pleased I'd decided not to go for the 22km option.

Headed up to Shooting Greens to go for a ride and as I went to park my car met AT and RC biking up the hill... really nice to have some company. Headed out high to the Scolty end then back along the river bank. Good recovery sesh.

Hanging controls in the dark for scouts session on Morrone. Shouldn't have been anything too technical, but found it surprisingly tricky to place a few and took longer than expected. Felt quite wild - not cold but a strong wind. Happy that I didn't have to collect them in after.

Proper w-u for a change. Legs feeling ok.

Orienteering race 52:00 [4] 5.9 km (8:49 / km)

DNC at Dinnet South. Really enjoyed tonight. Compass working pretty well. A few wobbles in the circle and bigger time loss at 13 (thought I had hit the green and turned off line, but think it was just general crud and hadn't gone far enough), but mostly happy with it. Another gorgeous evening.

Decent w-u before intervals and short jog back at end

Running intervals 30:00 [5] 4.1 km (7:19 / km) +100m 6:31 / km

10x2'+1' round the woods in Dess. Mingin' day so decided to stay in shelter close to home. Was actually ok once out there. Reps were undulating but mostly up rather than down - jogged a few of the descents on the recovery. Happy with that on slightly heavy legs.

Monday Jan 30, 2017 #

Peter's Hill. Up from the SE and off the NW, returning by the south side of the Feugh. Looked a reasonable day and set off with no real spare kit, map or compass (except 20% powered phone). Naughty - the cloud came right down over the top 100m, the track was filled with 1m of snow, and there was a bitter wind. Folk had been up yesterday so some tracks to help with in the drifts, but it was still quite slow going in places. Didn't attempt to find the direct route off the west end without any visibility or compass, and was happy when I found the right line from the track end to cross over to the northern valley. Lovely as always coming back along the Feugh at the end.
Out for longer than expected, but plan is for a hard week, so that's ok!
