Orienteering 45:00 [3] 4.5 km (10:00 / km)

Training at Corsedarder. 10' w-u with TS. Ran one of the loops without a compass on CO map, which went better than expected. Then 10' collecting a few controls. Nice to do a wee bit of training for myself. Legs a bit sore from yesterday but improved once I got going. Actually enjoyed Corsedarder too.

DNC Dinnet Muir Mark 2! Back to have another try at Wed night O. Controls had been taken in so had to focus extra hard to ensure I was in contact. GPS to keep me honest.
S-1 fine - saw both the veg boundary and track this time!
1-2 still missed the boulder to the south and bounced off the boulder in the re-entrant to the S (+1:45)
2-3 just slightly below, reflector would have pulled me up
3-4 was too high on this, but realised I was the wrong side of the ride and relocated quite quickly (+2:00)
4-5 found the ride up the hill this time. Kept map contact but still hesitated in the circle with extra rock confusing me(+0:30)
5-6 fine
6-7 fine
7-8 got a bit confused half way along the leg - not quite as I expected. Hit the sharp re-entrant to N of hill and found control from there (+1:00)
8-9 fine
9-10 fine
10-11 fine
11-12 fine
All in all a much more satisfactory performance and a really good training session. Might try a few more like this.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)

Walked up to leg 3/4 changeover then did a bit of jogging. Legs felt ok so didn't worry about doing too much. Twitching about going too far from changeover.

Hill Race race 38:17 [5] 5.5 km (6:58 / km) +350m 5:17 / km

Last leg of the Devils Burdens for the ladies team. Was pretty sure I'd gone out in 2nd, so was looking out for girls coming down the hill as I went up. Looked like there could be a Lochaber lass ~2' or so behind, but no sight of any others. Felt ok initially, but then legs started to hurt. Just tried to keep going steady up the first climb as I knew this was most of the height gain. Once onto the last steep section of the hill had to dig deep, but knew it wasn't for long. Run off the top was a joy and felt like there was pretty good grip in the longish grass, despite the frost. Tried to cut a corner through the top of the plantation which was a mistake as there was lots of windblow, so ended up bailing out to the right. In future would just head to the right of the forest block. Otherwise felt good and last run along the forest edge was soon over. Had seen 3 men pass me but not spotted any girls, so was fingers crossed that I'd held onto 2nd.
Phew - felt the pressure as the 'weakest link', but best ever DR ladies team result at the DBs I think. Legs were jelly at the end.

Need to get some recovery in before Sat now that I've been promoted to the ladies DB team. Also realise I have been falling behind on refuelling all week - late lunch Mon, "hungry" comment on Tues and then last night. Will aim to make up for it today:-)

Orienteering race 50:00 [3] 5.0 km (10:00 / km)

DNC Dinnet Muir. Oh dear. Only realised as we got there that I hadn't had anything to eat since (a not very large) lunch. Had a wee jog with J before setting off, but brain never really switched on. Fluffed 1 and 2, spiked 3 and 4 (probably by more luck than anything), then completely lost it on the way to 5. Tried to relocate several times, but wasn't with it at all, so decided to jack for tonight and come back and do it properly another night instead. Hopefully Sunday, as I need to ease up now for the DBs. Amateur.

Note

Possibly as well I jacked when I did as left disintegrator had disintegrated by the time I got back. Was wearing an odd pair made up from two shoes who's partners had both previously disintegrated (one on the DBs last year and the other before Christmas). Only bought these ones at Devilla last March. Time to try something else.

Short lap of the woods with the head-torch. Very short wd after intervals.

Running intervals 14:00 [5] 2.2 km (6:22 / km)

Done a lot of strength stuff on the legs in the last few days, so in need of some speedwork tonight. 10 x 210m from gate into forest through turning area to foot of climb, alternating direction with 30-35s recovery. Thin cover of snow but gripping ok. Took ~50-55s for each. Hungry.

Ski Touring 1:00:00 [3]

Tired this morning but too good a chance to miss Glenshee in stunning conditions. V cold (-11C above Braemar), but totally still (shame it wasn't like that yesterday on Schiehallion). Climbed up by the pistes onto Carn Aosda. Surprised to see 2 ptarmigan near the top - thought they would have been scared away from here. Tows up this side weren't operating but runs had been beautifully pisted, so had the joy of the first descent of Butchart's Access in lovely condition. Then climbed up towards Butcharts Coire and onto the spur up to the Cairnwell. Went almost to the top, then turned round and skied back down the same way. People up here, but lovely all the same. Out for 1:45 or so. Good snatch.

Did more than usual at after-school club as v few kids there. Quite a lot of reps of the hurdles in the hall, then jog out round the woods to the football pitch and a few sprints on the grass.
