Running 1:00:00 [3]

MTS half Schiehallion "run". Plenty of snow and more than enough wind. Conditions bad enough at 650m, no need to find out what they would be like on the summit. Cracking descent (apart from the shin bruising) and a good adventure all the same.

Running 1:40:00 [3]

Meant to be O tech training on Drummond hill but was so physical in a foot of crusty snow that turned largely into a physical session. Really impressed at how the juniors just got stuck in and got on with it. Hung a few kites then slogged round part of one of the loops. Jogged back down to the cars and then did a bit of a loosener on the golf course with a few strides. Tired.

Note

DOMS from Thu circuits. Really do need to go a bit more frequently.

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Cramping up in various places. Also later in evening.

Running 35:00 [3]

Head torch run from Weem Inn out the back up steep path into the forest, round some awesome crags (especially in the dark) and on up the hill. Turned round when started having to fight too much and straight back down to accommodation. Good bit of fresh air after the drive.

Running 31:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:12 / km)

Tired today and wild outside so not v inspired. Went for a wee trot round the woods with J which was better than I expected and felt better for it too.

Circuits 25:00 [3]

RM's FBX session. Tough, especially on the arms. Realise I have been neglecting S+C over the last few months - must try harder!

Strength and conditioning 20:00 [2]

And the sit-ups etc. Killer, but didn't do most of it properly as I kept my hands behind my head to avoid any additional neck strain.

Ski Touring 45:00 [3]

Up to the Lecht to test out new touring kit. Fair bit of faffing but did a couple of climbs and descents which gave a chance to get used to the bindings and practice with the skins (on and off) under a bit of stress (was pretty wild up top). Had closed in by my second descent so decided that was enough for the morning, bearing in mind DNC tonight. A few more sessions like this would be good before venturing too much further.

Orienteering race 1:00:00 [4] 7.0 km (8:34 / km)
spiked:15/18c

DNC at Balmedie. Not too into this tonight. 1:10,000 map made detail impossible to read at night and the dunes have changed so much in places anyhow that it turned into a bit of a point and hope. Lost ~9' on no 4 where I read it as a re-entrant on the opposite slope and had gone too far as well. Tried to relocate using the blown sand I could see, but turned out this wasn't depicted as such. Apart from that, blundered into most of them ok without having a real feel for what the terrain should look like.... don't like orienteering like that. Felt ok physically.

Running warm up/down 24:00 [2] 4.0 km (6:00 / km)

To start of intervals at Dinnet and back again from the end, on the railway.

Running intervals 30:00 [5] 4.6 km (6:31 / km)

5 x 4'+ 2' from Dinnet on the r/w. Same session as early Nov, but distances were notably poorer (=11s/km) - just shows what 4 weeks without speedwork does. 850m, 900, 890, 940, 980. Just glad that the last 2 were a bit better as I could finish the session with some hope. Legs felt alright, but breathing was a bit laboured and I wonder if residual tightness in my back was affecting performance a bit. Either way, nothing for it but to make sure I keep up the speedwork. Cold morning and track a bit skitey in places.
6 PM

Running 32:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:24 / km)

Felt like doing a bit extra so went for a headtorch run round the woods and out to the fields. Trying to snow but was nice and fresh.
