Sunday Mar 20, 2011 #

Note

From Barrao to Mutum. More sampling and hours on boat, but some touristing too. Couple of hours of easy walking and nature spotting pm.

Saturday Mar 19, 2011 #

Note

Long day on a boat sampling the Cuiaba river from N of the city down to Barrao de Melgaco.

Friday Mar 18, 2011 #

7 AM

Running 30:00 [2]

Bit of a lie in this morning, but it was really hot by 7 and never got out of 2nd gear on the run. Explored the "botanic garden" which was nothing to write home about, but nice to get off the road. Feeling tired and back a bit achey.

Strength and conditioning 25:00 [2]

Sampling bed sediment from a section of the Cuiaba River in the Pantanal wetlands - not sure how I got the heavy muddy job! Amazing day.
6 PM

Swimming 20:00 [2]

In the hotel pool.

6 AM

Running 40:00 [3]

Another early morning run from the hotel. Almost made it to the river this time until I landed in someone's back garden.
10 PM

Note

Ended up on a 14 hour bus tour of a very small part of the Upper Paraguay River Basin. Interesting - in multiple ways!

Tuesday Mar 15, 2011 #

6 AM

Running 47:00 [3]

Early morning run from the hotel. Hoped to reach the Cuiaba river but never quite found it. Got off the main road at least - probably as good as it will get this week.
7 PM

Swimming 20:00 [2]

Worked a bit harder in the pool this time
8 PM

Note

Another 10 hours of workshop but rather more interactive this time (and in English). Adapting to the pace of Brazilian (lack of) organisation.

Note

Sad to leave our w/e lodgings and host - an amazing guy who chucked his lawyers job in Rio to set up this Eco lodge, which he built entirely from recylced materials. V knowledgable about everything including Brazils first solar powered domestic cooling system which he is testing. Hope to go back there sometime.
Instead it was into the city for 10 hours of workshop delivered primarily in Portuguese - not great.
Managed a short swim in hotel pool - not really worthy of logging as training.
