Orienteering race 1:05:00 [4]

Other side of the road at La Test de Buche. Hillier terrain. Less green but a lot of undergrowth and tricky stuff. Mostly O'd really well - smooth and in control. Got confused with the map heading across to 8, then found myself off line and missed ~2 mins at 9. Then coming back over the same bit of the map to 11 something very odd happened and got completely confused. Actually stood at no 8 at one point, but didn't recognise it ;-{ and ended up losing 8 mins on the leg. Felt pretty rubbish, but enjoyed the race up to that point. Still managed to win W40, but no prizes for unlicensed runners.
Really good WMOC training - unfamiliar terrain and different mapping style. Coped with it pretty well for most of the time, but can't afford to have that 1 big blow-out, so need to tighten up on technique even more.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Easy jog to the start

Visited Arcachon after the race and had a quick dip in the sea. Lots more fab hospitality from our hosts.

Orienteering race 33:00 [4]

Middle distance in the north part of La Test de Buche. Locals were very apologetic about the area before the start but it wasn't that bad - a bit green, and the map a bit iffy in places, but runnability mostly ok. Sloppy technique at no 2 and 7 cost quite a few mins. Also missed 3 (didn't see it) and 6 (confused by unmapped track). In between was going quite well. Running didn't feel as bad as expected.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Brief jog before the start

Fantastic day. Weather much better than expected - warm and lots of sun later. Really warm welcome from Martignas orienteers. They certainly know how to do the social stuff (especially where it involves food and drink). Visited the Dune du Pilat after the race - well impressive. Swimming in the pool back at our host's house, just before a heavy shower, then dried up nicely again for the evening's social.

(rest day)

Had hoped to go for a long run but coughing up green goo, so R+R it is.

Orienteering 33:00 [3]

Control pick at Glen Dye. Feeling bleugh. Walked round with E hoping that I'd perk up a bit before going for my run, but it didn't help much. Wasn't focusing well, and bumbled round on autopilot. Should have been a good training session, but not sure how useful it was in practice.

Running intervals 30:00 [5]

5 x 4' + 2' at H'head. Long time since I've done this session. Distances were at least within my old "acceptable" range. Legs felt fine. Throat's a bit sore and eyes heavy though - hope it's hay fever and not a cold on its way.

Running warm up/down 18:00 [3]

To and from intervals.
