Really tempted to go and run up a hill, but knew I needed to do some speedwork. Parked at Cambus bridge and warmed up on the S side of the river heading W along the bank. Came back to Cambus station and did my pace session along the railway, then went back across the river and did a lap of Torphantrick Woods. Very cold down by the river - starting to ice over nicely below the bridge.
Running tempo 20:00 [5]
Ran along the railway hard for 10', then turned round and got back in 9:55. Good to get back to doing some quality.
From Invercauld W along the N side of the Dee with J and E. Wrapped up well, but still lost my fingers early. Unfortunately so did E, so we didn't last quite as long as we might have. Shame, as I was really enjoying it once we got going. Warmed up in the tea shop in Braemar which soon cheered E up.
From Corsedarder stone W through the forest, over Craiglash to Lamahip, down to Forest of Birse, back along the road for a few km, then back over through the Finzean forest. Fantastic morning - cold, crisp and clear. Particularly chilly down in F of Birse which doesn't see the sun at all at this time of year. Nice run. Back in time for me to get into town for Christmas lunch with work folk.
Stopped at Kingshill for a run on the way home at lunchtime. Perfect day and a lovely unwind from a morning of ploughing through job applications. Did a loop of the forest over the hill top. Decided I was enjoying it too much so on the way back did 8' of pace effort.
DNC at Tilquhillie. Norwegian score format. Not particularly pleasant. Lost time at: 128 - not far enough up the stream, lost faith and went back almost to fence; 122 - found some other big unmapped crag further S; almost missed 121 completely - should have got it at the start, but spotted I'd missed it at the end, then completely lost contact on the slope in the green.
Suspect this may be a contender for the Raemoir Trophy.
