Wonderful ride from home to Yewtree via Witherslack and back over Newton Fell. All the big climbing is in the back part of the ride - and some tasty ones too. Views are worth it.

After a lovely brunch at Yewtree, walked the dog from Millside along to Rawsons and up and over Whitbarrow. Heel was sore as wearing no support trainers.

Next time, I WILL wear my Garmin as I suspect there is quite a bit of distance in this and decent AHR. Five lawns with Hatty (and plenty of weights with the constant emptying of the sack!). :)

Heel felt less painful first thing... hopefully a sign of healing :) ... will visit another beach today.

Woke in the night with sore heel; first thing was agony until got moving a little; took it as easy as possible - resting on Lunan beach and driving as little as possible. Not disappointed to have missed Day 4 but gutted about tomorrow - Craig a Barns a treat.

Note
(injured)

Somewhere during Day 3, I managed to bash my heel quite badly - still not sure how or when... didn't notice it until the adrenaline and endorphins had dissipated. Left hobbling and in great pain if put any weight on it. Waking this am, it was very painful and stiff. Minor Injuries beckons and possible abandonment of the Tour d'Écosse!

Scottish Day 3 - Dundurn. Middle distance race that really suited me - only 40 mins of competition, close reading needed for most of it and good technical forest on a 1:7500 map. Flowed well until route to 5 when got caught up in windblown (mapped??). Slow to 6 across the open. Slight hesitation at 12 and should have made way straight to the open for the route to 17 rather than snaking through the forest first. Pleasing performance - 13th and lost by only 6 secs to 12th (and I joked to mum I blew at least 10 seconds and a place to stop and help her on my way to 15). Glasses worked a treat and this (distnace/type) seems to be an aspect of orienteering I can focus on for the block ahead.

Scottish Day 2 - another steady run; fewer mistakes but no higher up the list. Enjoyed the first 6 controls and indeed was 29th at that point; controls 7 to 12 were in vaguer and tussocky terrain. Struggled and slowed. Up to last control and run-in was death - 49th & 87th respectively!!
