Running 29:30 [2] 4.0 mi (7:23 / mi)
slept:6.5 shoes: Saucony Excursion

Awake early (4.30) with stomach still tingling after yesterday... Got out for a very easy jog around town n was kinda glad i'm not racing today as well. Felt bruised n battered, but very content.

10 AM

Off-road running warm up/down 30:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Before and after both heat and final... felt good throughout. Did plenty of stretching n stride outs to test the hammy.
11 AM

Orienteering race 15:37 [4] 2.28 km (6:51 / km) +80m 5:50 / km
shoes: Saucony Excursion

Heat B - warming up i felt ok; hammy was fine so decided at last minute to stretch it by running harder than intended, but not all out. Started well n got into the terrain n running quickly. No real problems at all, apart from slight hesitation from 9-10 n a return to the last control as i didnt think i'd dibbed it properly (i hadnt!). Turned out i'd won my hear n then decided i might as well go for it for the final...
3 PM

Orienteering race 13:49 [5] 2.19 km (6:19 / km) +75m 5:23 / km

Put on my road racers n decided as i might as well go for it... and i did. Realised there was an early control n blasted from the off... running well to early controls n feeling v confident about routes n terrain. In the looping around the accommodation block on the hill, i caught sight of Dave R n knew i was gaining. On the run to 9 i was seriously catching him n got within 2 seconds by 10. Kept that for 4 controls n then, leaving 14, i didnt think i'd heard the beep so went back to re-register - lost 4 seconds (this time it had already beeped - doh!). DR seemed to pick up n i was tiring... he was getting away but i knew i was still in with a shout. Struggled up the hill to 18 and 19. Nailed 20 fine n across the road with a semi-smile. I got out onto the field to see Dave dib n knew it was less than a minute (27 seconds to be precise). Had to wait for Nigel Bunn, but didnt need to worry. British Champion n couldnt believe it... just goes to show. Be relaxed; dont worry about things n chill n you'll be fine!!! A great afternoon capped off with another fantastic victory - the staff Grand National sweepstake :)))).

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
slept:7.0

With dylan down from Halifax Road to Jesus Green n then back afterwards (lovely soft ice-cream included!)... No problems with hamstring; although i wont risk things n will jog around tomorrow (if i go, that is).

Orienteering 21:00 [2] 2.0 km (10:30 / km)

O training with Dylan - getting him to look at Sprint mapping n features. He did well n seemed confident on some tricky longer legs.

3 PM

Gym 50:00 [4]
slept:3.5 (injured)

In spite of rubbish night's sleep, i had oodles of energy and got into the gym before the end of College for another good workout; 22 mins cross-trainer (v intense - pulse over 160); 8 mins spinning (yuk); 10 mins ascender; 10 mins cross-trainer. Hamstring a little tight, but it doesnt get sore doing this.
