Running (Warm up/down) 24:00 [1] 3.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
slept:6.7

Jog to the start and back from the finish at Nov Classic

Orienteering race 36:00 [5] *** 6.0 km (6:00 / km) +95m 5:34 / km
spiked:2/6c shoes: Integrator

Went off well and was making decent enough progress until chose direct route from 6 to 7. It was mapped as rough marshy open and looked ok from a distance and given it is the New Forest, should not have been too bad. It was! Took me 10 MINS (!) to progress 200m! Never experienced deep tussocks/blind ditches/thorns like it. Should have been mapped as uncrossable. I'm 6 foot tall, quite strong and relatively fit but was reduced to a complete cripple in this terrain. Eventually got across and jacked it in. No mood to finish.... A simple lesson in why orienteering can also be a completely SHIT sport.

Terrain training 32:00 [3] ** 5.5 km (5:49 / km) +55m 5:32 / km
shoes: Integrator

Ran back to the finish through the terrain in a foul mood (from controls 7 to 13) navigating but without punching.

Note

Just checked splits from the Classic and I was 3.5 mins off the pace by control 6. Not good. Had felt dodgy all week - more tired than usual - but that could have been down to the training load. Did make wobbly errors on the way to those early controls and was not particularly clean - but clearly was losing more time than I thought. Physical or navigational? Hmm.....

Running (Easy run) 33:20 [1] 4.5 mi (7:24 / mi)
slept:8.0

Very easy run. Off road around Ely. Felt very tired and weary. Tum still unsettled from Thu's night drink. At what age does the body stop being able to deal with alcohol! Grrr.....

Running warm up/down 41:00 [1] 5.5 mi (7:27 / mi)
slept:5.5 shoes: Adidas Swoops

Easy run (and back) over to Harlow Town Park using mainly off-road paths. Cycle track woods were like New England forests! Lovely day - only made dodgy by 15 units of alcohol sloshing around the system...

Terrain training hills (Hilly fartlek) 35:00 [4] 5.0 mi (7:00 / mi) +120m 6:31 / mi
shoes: Adidas Swoops

Hilly fartlek. Did about 6 reps - each approx 4-5 mins using the hills of Harlow Town Park (yes... there are some and they are quite steep!). Tough - thighs were very heavy and felt grotty from last night's booze.

Running (Easy run) 33:30 [1] 4.5 mi (7:27 / mi) +50m 7:12 / mi
slept:6.5

Woke tired, ran tired and spent day tired. Easy run around Ely - off road as much as possible. Even had afternoon nap. Felt better by evening.

Running tempo 1:10:00 [3] * 10.0 mi (7:00 / mi) +25m 6:57 / mi
slept:9.0 shoes: Adidas Swoops

Run from High Lodge Warren (Thetford Forest). 20 mins steady on tracks followed by 30 mins at tempo (classic race) pace on the 'Black' mountain bike route (left a pack of riders for dead!) followed by 20 mins easy. Met up with daughter, Alice, at the end of her O session and still managed to beat her over 80 metres sprint... just! Lovely crisp autumn morning - cold with clear skies. The only disturbance was from the F16s in and out of Lakenheath.

Running 34:00 [2] 5.0 mi (6:48 / mi) +20m 6:43 / mi
slept:6.5 shoes: Hi-Tec 2

Easy run around the Cathedral and river. Beautiful cold and frosty morning.

Note

No second run. Tired and spent pm watching '30 Days Of Night' with Mrs Ackbar!

Running (Running) 1:05:00 [2] 9.0 mi (7:13 / mi) +20m 7:10 / mi
slept:7.0 shoes: Hi-Tec 2

Steady run around Ely on the roads. Felt tired, but had a bit of a spring in my step. Out at 6am as awake early due to clocks change!

Note

First week of proper training this autumn and am also using Attackpoint for the first time to aid motivation. The whole (!) world will be able to tell if I skip any more sessions or use work as an excuse for not training!
