Matriculation and spent much of the day walking at a good pace - to Ely station, over from Cambridge to Leckhampton, back to Corpus and then up to the station at the end. A tiring but wonderful day.

Awake very early and had intended to run (i) at home (ii) at school in the morning, but somehow got distracted by work. Ended up jogging back from Station Rd via Corpus to collect my things. Felt ok.

Jog into terrain to use the warm-up map and then up to the start.

Orienteering race 1:19:55 [4] 10.0 km (8:00 / km) +270m 7:02 / km
shoes: Integrator 4

Disappointing run - caused principally by lack of fitness... Apperared to lose about 6 mins on first control and then another 40 secs on 4. Was just running slowly before missing 10 for another 30-40 secs. Was pretty much jogging by the end. Need training, training and training.

Warm up and down before/after the Chariots... felt reasonable beforehand but lungs were blown apart following the race. Scott Overall looked impressive!

Chariots of Fire - running second leg whihc gave me plenty of runners to pass (and no-one came past me). Strong through 800m (2.35) but struggled later on due to lack of intervals or much training! Good fun and nice to race past my new college :-)

Before the event at Mildenhall...

Orienteering race 44:57 [4] 6.1 km (7:22 / km)
shoes: Integrator 4

Started poorly with major wobble to no 2 (min?) and another lesser mistake to 3 - indicated rust and lack of training. Kept on having slight misses or dodgy lines using compass and generally was struggling running in the terrain - a combination of no training in it and the morning's race. Lots to do and work on!

Met up with Dylan who was struggling and stayed with him from his 10 to the end - used it as a combined 'warm down' and added training.

Meant to train but found out am now a postgrad student at Corpus Christi - so went back to Cambridge to get gown and tie and a Mac for Cait and to have a celebratory pint in what will hopefully be the local for both of us by next Oct. Why not!?!

Out for nice trot through golf course, Kings, river and up to the Common for 2 laps of the XC course. Felt pretty decent n enjoyed the jaunt in spite of 'work thoughts'.

A couple of laps around the playing fields and then O&B to the Roman Rd. Felt reasonable even after the weekend's epic 900 mile and 16 hours of travelling.
