tried to get out early because thunderstorms are forecast later. legs felt a little empty to start with so wasnt too optimistic about getting far. went up over stannage and went down the dale as it's a more technical descent which was better as it was a little windy.
bumped into alex moore and josh and a couple others in hathersage who were going out for a run.
kept a nice gear turning in the valley as it was quite sheltered.
went through Hope and Castleton to winnatts pass. was going great for a while i was pedalling quite nicely, getting fairly low on gears but keeping the legs spinning so wasnt too worried. then got to the mines, turned the corner and saw what monstrosity was ahead. a nice 2 kilometers of 20%.. ran out of gears, tried to keep in the saddle as much as i could, but all was in vain, Hope was long gone. (<-- see what i did there?? classic geographic pun). got to the top of winnatts eventually and realised i then had to climb up mam tor..
was all worth it though! the descent off mam tor was mental! i think it's my version of malley's favouratist path ever. was so tempted to do the winnatts-mam tor loop again but it's quite a big loop and the weather was getting worse so headed back towards sheffield.
overtook a cyclist on the way back along the valley who just tucked in behind me for 10k to hathersage where i bumped into the guys again
