running (Bellevue Heights) 1:19:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 28 purple

Of course it didn't take long to get dark after I finished today's dispensary shift, but the air still held the remnants of a pleasant day (even though I hadn't experienced any of it in person) and I'd brought my headlamp, so continued up the hill further than I'd originally intended to do since I was feeling a little more lively than the past few days. Still not convinced that I'll be at Kuitpo with my ankles taped and ready for a 17km trail run at 8am tomorrow...

After collecting my car from being serviced, parked at Somerton Beach and went for a sunset foreshore run to Brighton, then Glenelg, then back again. Groin/hamstring strain which manifested spontaneously for no obvious reason after Monday, seems fine by now, but the saw froat which materialised yesterday (it was impossible to avoid being around multiple coldy people on the weekend) may explain why I'm still feeling so flat today. Was nice to run on the sand/dodging the waves though, and to observe the Marino lighthouse flashing upon the southerly hilltop - that was the furthest distance we ever ran from home in my teenaged years.

running (Morialta) 1:22:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 24 black/green

Long day out at the schools' champs which started with meeting Kym at 7am to put out controls in Bonython Park, then I ended up on the start (which was a bit of a schemozzle initially with schools arriving late due to city traffic) for a couple of hours in the rain, and when I got back to the finish most of the mispunches had been dealt with (kids are so convinced that they went to the right control but nearly always they punched a wrong one in the vicinity - I did feel bad though that a couple of mispunches on the longest courses appeared to have been due to forgetting to punch the control at the map flip). Somehow I found myself coordinating control collection and initially there were only about 3 volunteers but I eventually twisted a few arms and since it was a sprint map, we had everything back and packed up by 2 pm, so I had time to head across town to Morialta to see the waterfalls - got to make something worthwhile out of a day of annual leave!

Legs which had been standing for so long today didn't want to go up even the first hill, but they eventually made it up to Deep View lookout with lots of stretching stops and the vista from there showed me that it would definitely be worth getting up close and personal with the waterfalls even though my dodgy ankle was quite unimpressed with the rough stuff. Didn't go right into Third Falls though because the creek crossings up there would have been unmanageable for me at that flow rate, so instead once back down at the bottom I added the redundancy into the base of First Falls because they are after all the most impressive.

running long (Bridgewater) 1:31:00 [3] 14.5 km (6:17 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 24 black/green

Realised when I woke up that I wasn't going to manage to do a longer run by myself today, so headed up to Bridgewater in the fog, and then we all squelched out along the roaring Cox Creek (under the trainline and the freeway) in the rain. Ended up doing the Carey Gully Rd extension with Zara & Fern and that was quite nice although my legs fell off going up the last big hill.
