orienteering race (NOL sprint final) 18:53 [4] 2.9 km (6:31 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-2000

UNSW @ Kensington, which was rather fun. I warmed up up the hill on the road outside so I knew what to expect from the stairs, and actually they didn't seem too bad. From the start there wasn't much thinking time and I managed to read ahead quite well, I thought, taking the more straightforward left routes to both 7 and 8, although on 8 I then thought I'd better not jump the corner of the garden bed (even though it turns out the map would have allowed me to). Punched 9 just after Phoebe and then confused the crap out of myself on the very short leg to 10 - after I'd gone down the indoor stairs I suddenly didn't know which alleyway I'd popped out into, but a panicked look at my compass and reorientation of map got me back on track pretty quickly. Not sure if I took the best route to 7; Katelyn belted past me & WATash here then I was hesitant about crossing the garden bed on the exit from 13 so they both ran away from me and I spent the rest of the race trying and failing to catch up to Natasha. Good course, kept me thinking, and I ran ok but assuming I only lost about 30 sec on hesitations and garden-bed avoidance, still think I'd like to be able to run a minute faster by Easter.

orienteering race (NOL sprint relay) 16:35 [4] 2.1 km (7:54 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Sydney uni, running first then John, Tyson, Mel. Possibly should have taken the left route immediately out of the start but didn't see it in time. Anyway, was still with everyone else at the end of the long first leg but then foolishly took the ramp instead of the stairs down towards no 2. Then left route to 3 which was too wide. So on 5 I didn't go wide and couldn't find the stairs I wanted from the edge of a carpark and had to have a couple of goes at it; lost the best part of a minute there. Also a little on a wide route leaving 6 and at 7 when the most logical route to 8 was the blocked alleyway. And took the wrong stairs out of 13 after crossing the bridge. So could have been the best part of 2 minutes more efficient throughout the course, which is a lot in a sprint. Anyhow, felt like I was running quite well even if I couldn't keep up with a girl who appeared to be about 10!

orienteering race (NOL sprint qualifier) 20:31 [4] 2.6 km (7:53 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Sir Joseph Banks Park, Botany. Was a bit hot in the sun and I struggled to run through the sand dunes. Wombled around a bit getting to 1 but I think everyone did who had the harder split there. Managed to follow Jo to what was in fact my no. 5 instead of 2, the pivot control, because I left the track at the wrong place. But that at least meant that I definitely came back to 5 instead of skipping it like the favourites did...after 6 overran the track across the swamp and ended up in a dead end - again, I suspect I wasn't the only one. The rest of the course required no real navigation and was a bit of a slog, but the control on the elephant (sculptures) was very cool!

swimming 36:00 [3] 1.0 km (36:00 / km)

Slow sleepy stiff swim. Don't think I got in anyone's way.

Note

Affter a Thursday which was even more messy at work than usual I was really late for Belair, and Z probably shouldn't have waited for me, because I seemed to have chest pains and stomach cramps and decided to turn around after about 5 minutes. Think it was just musculoskeletal but I have obviously been very tense lately and even had difficulty swallowing my dinner because my throat was so tight.

running (Colonel Light Gardens) 34:22 [3]
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Before Easter meeting. This temporary attempt at a tempo tapered to tediousness. Hope I feel better than this on Sat because apparently now I am running first because Mel's not flying in until 8am Sat (!) Wonder if she'll be allowed to enter quarantine late...?

swimming 34:00 [3] 1.0 km (34:00 / km)

The coffee at the pool always smells really good but I suspect I would be disappointed if I tasted it.

Note

Attack of the Killer Physio
Legs were a bit hammered after this and also I finished work late, so didn't make it to Morialta.

running (Monday night) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Had thoughts of a longer run tonight but legs a bit stiff from yesterday and anyway I felt like being social. Around Hawthorndene with the pram brigade and Fern & I did a little extra.
