Walked over to the park with Glen to watch the 2.5k/5k run/walk (benefitting the school which is between the park and our neighborhood). We didn't take part; just curious to see where it went and who participated.

Upper 60s and mostly sunny. A bit hot for racing. :-)

Walking back home. Starting to cloud over a bit; closer to 70 now.

Biking (Gravel/dirt) 1:38:51 intensity: (16:45 @0) + (26:27 @1) + (41:45 @2) + (9:22 @3) + (4:28 @4) + (4 @5) 15.46 km (6:24 / km) +10m 6:22 / km

D&L trail, Walnutport Spur, from Slatington. Mid 70s or so and mostly sunny.

We crossed the Lehigh R on the road bridge, then found the mostly dirt trail heading south from there. We went as far as we could to where an aqueduct used to carry the canal over a side stream, then turned around.

We crossed the road (Main St) and continued north. Lots of folks were fishing in the canal, and we saw tons of turtles of various sizes (and types, probably) sunning themselves on the logs down in the canal.

At one point I saw what I thought was a deer approaching the canal where it was narrow and wooded, but it turned and I saw a furry tail...coyote? A darker one if it was.

Nice wildflowers in bloom too: pink azaleas (pinxter flower), dame's rocket, blue flag iris, bluets, and some other blue flower...a Sisyrinchium blue-eyed grass.

Nice ride. When we got back to the parking lot Glen wanted to ride a bit more so we started south and noticed the start of the Slate Heritage Trail, so rode that for a short distance. There are some quarry remnants and other historical artifacts, and the trail itself was pretty shaded where we were, so probably worth exploring this summer.

To park and around neighborhood, with Glen, in very light showers. About 70F

ahr:94 max:123 shoes: 2019 Altra LP4.0 9 rspb

A wander on rocky trails on Lehigh property below Mountaintop Campus while Glen ran.

Saw a female Baltimore oriole; and a pair of indigo buntings (m/f), or so I assumed as they were hanging out together.

Wanting a ride but not the potentially muddy trails closer to home due to the heavy rain Friday-Saturday, we drove up to West End Regional Park, most of whose trails are almost always dry...and the ones I rode on were. Temp was in the low 70s, some breeze, and sunny.

First of the season ride on Roller Coaster which I did in the opposite direction I've usually done it. There are slopes I have to walk up on Roller Coaster, no matter which direction I take. Also did part of Extra Credit across the road, before returning and riding Fun Stuff twice. Rode the entire length of the tree-skinny on the second try!

Note

Legs aren't too sore; left ankle is a bit creaky. I forgot to note my wildlife sightings yesterday...

While in the woods between JB1 and JD, I saw a fox cross my path and run off; one deer (I'm sure others in the woods had scared off more); and on the drive home shortly after leaving the park we saw an eagle soaring overhead. A lot of birds were enjoying the gorge yesterday too.

Walking 1:02:40 intensity: (2:13 @0) + (48:24 @1) + (11:44 @2) + (11 @3) + (8 @4) 5.65 km (11:06 / km) +24m 10:52 / km
ahr:96 max:149 shoes: Hoka Bondi7--W9D

The sky has been cloud-free all day...a beautiful blue (and much drier than the weekend; we had 3.25" of rain Friday and Saturday), so I *needed* to get out. Went looking for shade of which there's not a lot yet because some trees haven't leafed out. Maples are out, oaks just coming. Nice breeze kept me cool despite the 70° temp.
