Orienteering race (night O) 1:02:01 [3] *** 3.94 km (15:44 / km) +147m 13:16 / km
spiked:12/14c slept:6.0 shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-B 2013-10

At Ratlum Mtn. Long night O course, nominally 3.2 km

Slow but steady. Took small trails to 2 and then cut through woods so probably lost a little time but I mostly knew where I was.

I had help on 6 (Bill D) and 8 (Phil B) and probably would have taken longer without them being there.

Thanks again, Rhonda and Charlie!

A mile only plus cool down because we have errands to get to.

A dead tree came down last night when we had some wind gusts after the rain stopped (we heard the crash but couldn't identify what it was). Pretty far from the house but it's in the middle of a path we keep open to the brush pile so Glen wants to get it cleaned up.

Green course at SVO's Lancaster Co. Central Park, SL 5.9 km 200m climb

Took a few roundabout routes between controls as I got used to the map whose north lines pointed NNE. Garmin battery died on the way to 2 and I knew it was almost gone so I took splits on my Timex Ironman watch (the old fashioned way)...but I missed a split between 2 and 4 and guessed on the times. No epunch; I added splits from my watch.

As they warned us in meet notes the map is showing its age and has changed a bit since it was last updated (map date is 2000); root stocks are not very large, and some white woods and "open fields" are overgrown. One major trail that several of us took from 3-4 wasn't on the map at all so we were all confused (separately; we compared notes afterward) when it came out near a road. Mown paths weren't always reflected on the map either. Good relocation exercises. ;-)

Nice to get out on a sunny day and the temperature was just right (about 50). Thanks, SVO!
