Orienteering race (Middle) 33:49 [3] *** 1.85 km (18:16 / km) +28m 16:59 / km

Preliminary Brown X course at Troll Cup 2016. SL 1.6 km, 40m, 10c

Walked all but the final run in which I took at a slow, careful jog. Deliberate through the woods which were at times fine bit often cluttered underfoot (not so much downfall as saplings and blueberry bushes which would much more difficult when they leaf out.

Most of my competitors here have heard how I lost my balance on the way into the motel last night and hit the railing on the way down, bruising my left side around the rib cage. Don't think I broke anything or even cracked ribs but I'm taking slow and deliberate movements, particularly anything involving bending over. Putting on socks this morning was an adventure... Jogged the trail to the finish holding my left arm in tight to my side.

Pleased with navigation, but this would have been fun to do at a speed faster than a walk. I love middles and this had lots of short legs and direction changes. Third of five in F60.

Orienteering race (Middle) 34:37 [3] *** 1.67 km (20:41 / km) +25m 19:15 / km
spiked:7/8c (injured) shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-A 2013-08

8km, 50m, 8c
Final, set up as a reverse chase with interval starts, so fastest went last. While it was a long time between races (it had to be so they could figure out the start times in the afternoon), it was relatively nice weather with sun and not much breeze and mid 50s. Fun to chat with everyone and catch up on winter doings.

Again, navigated cleanly except for a slight detour in the way to 6 to check a bag even though I knew in the back of my head I hadn't gone far enough. Again, no jogging except a slight bit at the beginning and at the end.

Again finished 3rd (unless MJC was reinstated), decent place time-wise and probably not much slower than normal. Side still sore and stiff.

We got to the Y early, so time for a few laps around the track.

Kudos to the lady who comes in a wheelchair and does a couple of laps with her cane at a snail's pace.

Pilates class (bands) 50:00 [1]

All the normal band exercises except leg pull (from hand/knees).

Knee and shoulder imperfections remain.

Orienteering race (Short sprint) 36:51 [4] 3.06 km (12:03 / km) +84m 10:36 / km
ahr:140 max:155 spiked:13/14c shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-B 2013-10

Short "spriddle" at Cemetery Hill, Northampton, MA, 1st event in the New England Challenge and Sprint Series. We'll see how many of these we get to. SL 2.5 km, 70m climb

Okay though I don't move fast, but much faster than I thought a week ago I'd be doing at this point. Any hill was a trudge. Downhills were okay until the leg across the field at 10-11 where my right knee started to ache, so I slowed down just a bit.

To 10 I went through the woods instead of around in the field (which was probably better) and was slightly off line but not too far and I had someone else nearby to help pinpoint the flag. Slow finding the spring and flag at 14. People kept catching and passing me, but I ended up 2nd woman, almost 10 minutes behind Evalin B.

Nice course by Phil B. We've orienteered here before so many areas were familiar but you still need to keep thinking. More folks did the short sprint vs the 3.8 km long course, knowing there was more to come.

Sprint final at Cemetery Hill, Northampton, MA. SL 2.6 km, 80m climb

This was a chase start event, so I started about 17 minutes behind Joe Brautigam who had been fastest on the earlier short course. Some different areas than earlier, and a different flow, to keep you thinking.

I observed folks starting out to see where they went and the route choice was identical for all so I went that way too; a fine way to start.

Knee achy throughout this race and after...blergh. The NSAID regimen is helping, however.

My race times were just 17 seconds apart at around 37 minutes each time, which is actually about the times I predicted before we even got to CH today.

Thanks again to Phil and his helpers (PG and Amy R and Jim Paschetto) for a fun way to spend a few hours and catch up with friends.
