Note

Mwahahaha! Today will be a day to remember!
10 AM

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Using elastic bands. I like how she always changes things up so we never know what to expect.
11 AM

Walking (indoor track) 22:02 [3] 1.5 mi (14:41 / mi)
shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

Wanted to do something, but not get too sore for this evening. The soft surface is better for my joints than walking outside.

Also, pulldowns (7@68.75#) and adductors (12@75# and 12@70#)
6 PM

Orienteering race (corn maze classic) 28:04 [4] ***** 2.47 km (11:21 / km) +1m 11:19 / km
spiked:11/12c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Corn maze race novice, so made typical novice mistakes to start, as in taking too long to get used to the scale!

I was most of the way across the maze (west) before I realized where I was and was able to navigate to #1, which was SSW of the start/maze entrance. Much better after that, though the route I took from 2 to 3 left me scratching my head as to where I as; I found number 4 first, and was able to find my way from there to 3 (and back again, of course).

Punch box at 7 fell off the stand as Steve (just ahead) punched before me (and maybe even before we got there), but we picked it up. I guess the rubber band system that was supposed to hold it on failed earlier in the race.

Connecting lines ended at 12 and I was a bit bemused about what to do next, but decided the best course of action was to head to the finish, and that was the right thing to do! Fun times.

Orienteering race (corn maze sprint) 6:51 [5] ***** 0.66 km (10:22 / km) +1m 10:17 / km
spiked:5/5c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Fast and furious, but I had a better idea of what to do, and executed pretty well. Had to stop after 3 and really look at the map to plan route to 4, which was a tricky leg with the opportunity to get stuck in a dead end, much more so than any other.

Orienteering race (corn maze relay) 5:13 [5] ***** 0.56 km (9:19 / km) +1m 9:14 / km
spiked:5/6c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Out on leg 1 of the 2-person relay, teamed up with Dave Yee. I actually managed to make it back to tag off my team mate before the mass start (2 minutes after the fastest leg 1 runner finished).

5:07 + 11:22 = 16:29 for our team, though with the leg 2 mass start that didn't really matter.

Dinner/party at Bub's BBQ followed.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

All floor aerobics today--fast and furious! Remembered my shoes (and everything else) today.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

No tools. Just a good class. :-)
11 AM

Fitness equipment (elliptical) 45:00 [2]
shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

Hill intervals, level 3. 1.96 mi

8 pulldowns @ 68.75#; 12*75# and 12*70# adductors

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Forgot to bring the bag that holds my exercise shoes and towel, so I exercised in socks only. A bit weird, but more awareness of where my feet were during aerobics exercise movements. No problems otherwise.

Hiking 1:15:06 [2] 3.26 mi (23:03 / mi) +143m 20:17 / mi
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 #6 - H

Hiked with Rob at Kennedy Park in Lenox, MA. Then we picked up a few things at stores there, and pasta from Fresco's for supper.

The beaver is still in the pond! It's working hard on quite a few of the trees there.
8 PM

Note

Checked past log notes about the beaver, and its first mention was over a year ago (end of June, 2011) in oeo2oo's log. I wonder how many trees he's taken down in a year. There are beavers and a pond at the Audubon sanctuary a mile or so away from Kennedy Park--wonder if he wandered over from there and decided to stay.

Running (dirt) warm up/down 5:53 [3] 0.48 mi (12:09 / mi) +4m 11:51 / mi
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Running (dirt) race 36:02 [4] 3.12 mi (11:33 / mi) +100m 10:30 / mi
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Landis Arboretum "6th Perennial Cross Country 5K Forest Run", in Esperance, NY. Temps in the mid 60s, sunny and dry, made for very pleasant conditions. We had run the 1st incarnation of this run back in 2007 and remembered it as a great course. My time this year was only 19 seconds slower (due to extra pounds? extra walking this time around?). I had to walk up a few of the hills (all fairly short), especially the steepest one before the one mile mark.

They didn't paint *all* the roots this time around, but the biggest toe-stubbers were highlighted with neon paint.

Finished 2nd in F50-59 again (of 7 this year), but first place was only about 17 seconds ahead of me; I had passed her in the last mile but she got me back with a few tenths to go and I couldn't keep up. Prizes this year were discs cut from fallen branches of the 400+ year old white oak on the property and finished with polyurethane(?).

Approx. 70 finishers
