Orienteering race (Hounds sprint) 19:17 [4] *** 1.9 km (10:09 / km)
spiked:13/15c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

FR = 2.065 km
Small hesitation on way to 4 (from road), and looped around field from 6-7 rather than straight thru woods (35m leg!), so could have done a bit better. Slow climbing hill 11-12.

Map posted below 3rd race shows all three tracks in one; I suspect PG will be posting the maps. If he doesn't I'll post later.

Warm, ~70 at start and sunny (gorgeous day!). Between race snacks included jelly beans. :-) Thanks Lyn and George!
12 PM

Orienteering race (Fox sprint) 21:36 [4] *** 2.2 km (9:49 / km)
spiked:15/16c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

FR = 2.354 km; non-spike was trying to remember what a control I'd been to before looked like coming from the opposite direction. :-)

Haven't counted the climb (2.5m contours) but the little that there was slowed me down (despite all the hill work I've been doing on the treadmill--ah well). Left knee complained a few times.

Orienteering race (Score O / 20) 25:35 [3] *** 2.17 km (11:46 / km)
spiked:20/20c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

FR measured the distance shown; straight line distance was probably just a little shorter; most routes were pretty straight.

The score O options were 10, 20, or all 30 controls. A lot of them were clustered in the area we'd been to for the 2 sprints and the other 10 were spread farther afield. I didn't want to work that hard (and now, comparing my time with Glen, I would have been hard pressed to get all 30 in the hour allotted). I was happy to get the 20 in less than a half hour.

The trick on the score O was that some controls were printed with red circles and some with green, and you HAD to alternate, so there wasn't a direct route. Doubling back was required in some cases. Anyway, it was fun because it kept you thinking. I actually started out in one direction but after looking at the map decided to turn 180 degrees and go the opposite direction.

Note

Map with all controls marked.
1) Hounds sprint - orange line
2) Fox sprint - purple
3) Score O - yellow

Walking hills (roads) 47:54 [3] 3.25 mi (14:44 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 #4-Y

"North block," counterclockwise (I don't remember the distance and didn't take my FR -- maybe Glen will correct me if I'm wrong...).

Low 70's and sunny -- warm! Passed a horse(!) (with a rider) who was taking a stroll -- I guess it wasn't interested in exerting much.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

At the Y, using rings to great effect. I can't remember which particular exercise had many of us groaning, but I'll probably feel it tomorrow.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

In Chatham. We did manage to pull our prank on Jennifer; one of the group had made a small banner wishing her a happy April fools day. :-)

I got there a minute or so after 9:30 ("scheduled" start time) and still managed to be the second one to enter the building (yay - Ruth was back from the Caribbean!).

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

At the Y, using only weights for a few strength exercises.
11 AM

Running (treadmill) hills 25:18 [3] 2.0 mi (12:39 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Combo of running (5.3 mph) and fast-hiking hills (up to 7.5%, 4.3 mph) on the treadmill. Didn't feel like doing intervals; maybe next time.

Listened to "Wait, Wait..," and part of a podcast about the Amish (part of a series whose name I can't remember and can't find right now). They mispronounced "Lancaster" (as in PA). They also opined that there are no Walmarts in Lancaster County but they're wrong about that too. Everything else is either as I've heard or something I didn't know. I know, I'm such a critic...

Walking (treadmill) 39:42 [2] 2.73 mi (14:32 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

The rest of the treadmill workout, including warmup, straight walking, some hills, and 5 min of cool-down (0.28mi).

Note

Just got back from visiting parents (both sets) in PA. No chance to run or even walk.
