Orienteering race 1:36:03 [3] 5.4 km (17:47 / km)
shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Green course at Ansonia. Fine run except for the leg from 1-2 (19min error, just wandering). I'll download my Forerunner track later and put it on the map. Good course by "the Russians." :-)

This same area at Ansonia snuffed me last time we went there, on another early-in-the-course leg. Others haven't seemed to have problems there, so I guess it's my reading of the map. Maybe I'll have to go back again and just wander that area off-time to see what's up!

Walking 24:40 [0] 1.35 mi (18:16 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 #4-Y

Leisurely stroll down to the P.O. to mail a couple of things to go out tomorrow. I walked shortly after dinner, thus the lack of intensity. Barely worth mentioning, in fact...

Exerc. Class 50:00 [1]

In Chatham. Started late (later than 'normal late') and finished regular time...

Tuesday May 19, 2009 #

Running (dirt) long (and hills) 1:22:54 [3] 5.95 mi (13:56 / mi) +67m 13:28 / mi
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 1

At Hand Hollow Cons. Area in West Lebanon, after the school vote (mid afternoon; temp in the mid 60s). Started at Gale Hill Rd parking area, down to main parking area near pond with herons, then up forest road beyond the Rickey place to upper pond. Down Cons. Area trail, back by heron pond, and back up with side loop through field (no bears today either).

AOWN: Two herons in the "rookery," plus one tick which I removed easily with my fingers (it hadn't been on long), turning it counter-clockwise to unscrew its little nozzle. Knee-high grass in places on the main trails--not enough users.

Walking warm up/down 5:15 [0] 0.16 mi (32:53 / mi)

Cooled down walking down the trail, looking for the flowers I thought I saw earlier when I first started my run, but I never found them. Drove by the pond and took pics of the herons instead... (may post one later)

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

In Chatham. Nothing to recover from; legs didn't even feel sore or tight from the weekend (either I wasn't running hard enough -- though I'm somewhat limited by my cardio system -- or I stretched enough, a possibility). :-)

Nice discussion with the trainer after class.

Running (dirt) warm up/down 8:00 [2] 0.55 km (14:33 / km)
shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Jogging to the washroom and then to start. Washroom in building near parking had signs of cleats not permitted and I was already in my O shoes so ran to nearby buildling, then down the hill towards start.

Orienteering race (Brown long) 52:58 [4] *** 4.4 km (12:02 / km) +105m 10:45 / km
spiked:10/11c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

[Edited -- added location] Sprague Brook Park near East Aurora, NY. Did the "brown long" course which was really an orange/yellow course with one advanced leg by my estimation. The one I didn't do cleanly (# 4) was one of the "orange-ish" ones; I totally missed an obvious trail just before the rootstock and was caught by an adjacent one which went at a different angle; hesitation relocating and then also after leaving control; about 1:30 lost in total. Otherwise good routes and execution. I thought the second half of the course was very yellow-ish and was disappointed I didn't get to see more of the woods. Lots of trail running.

Sixth out of 28 overall on Brown; 1st F55 (of 5), but no Mary Jo (on green) or Sandy. :-)
