Orienteering race 1:01:03 [4] *** 3.7 mi (16:30 / mi) +180m 14:20 / mi
spiked:14/15c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Miami-Whitewater North at Flying Pig (day 1, middle-distance green course)

No real plan on #1 and for a minute or so didn't know where I was but I recovered because there were other people in the area (I think it was on more than one course). Help on some of the others but otherwise knew where I was the rest of the way.

Note

Jog/walk to start, about 10 minutes.

Walking (treadmill) 45:00 [4] 3.15 mi (14:17 / mi)
shoes: Asic Gel GT2110 8.5D

At the Y. I'm still learning how to set the treadmill and other equipment, but I did the last 30 minutes with the incline set at 3.0. Felt weird to stop, though. :-)

Exerc. Class 55:00 [2]

Sleeveless shirt time! (pretty soon I'll have to move to shorts, too) Hurray!

Running (paved) 34:26 [4] 3.0 mi (11:29 / mi)
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 1

66 & Alb Tpk. 54 and partly sunny. Nice!

I was warm except when running by left-over snowbanks (and there's still snow on the lawns, too; anywhere from 0-4" or so).

Exerc. Class 55:00 [2]

I needed to get the legs moving, and I really, really, needed the stretching we did at the end. My back is tight today, probably from trying not to fall/slide down the steep hillsides of Mt. Misery. :-)

Orienteering race 2:42:19 [4] *** 9.71 km (16:43 / km)
spiked:21/23c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)

Valley Goat III at Valley Forge/Mt. Misery map (medium-length version). I was right behind Sandy for the first 3 controls but then she took off. :-)

I was with people for the first 5 controls, led a small group into #6, found 10 & 11 with no help as well as 22 and 25-30 (medium skipped 12-18).

My non-spikes were: Went a little too far on the trail before cutting down to # 5, and I was higher on the hill to #10, but corrected along the way.

Fun course--thanks DVOA and Mike B.! (Even though I could barely walk a couple hours later...)

Added note: Forerunner showed distance covered was 12.3 km. I might have saved 0.5 k or so if I'd contoured between 21-23...

Revised course length which gives me a much better per km time. :-) This was rather longer than advertised...
