Note

Spectated at Glen Affric today (S6D day 6), watching for Glen to finish his course. Then we drove back to Dumferline near Edinburgh on the west side of LochNess instead of going back to Inverness to take the A9. We saw some things we wouldn't have otherwise including most of Ben Nevis (top was in clouds) and didn't have the aggravation of stopping to merge at the lane narrowings on A9. Took a bit longer that way but was worth it.

Off to London tomorrow!

W60L, 4.4 km/180m climb

After trouble to numbers one and three and not feeling well (much coughing from my cold on any climbs and legs very tired), I decided to walk in, and picked up 12 and 13 at the end. I'm very uninterested in going out again tomorrow on similar terrain (used today for the WOC long). Kudos to Sandy, mbo, and Sue H-T (and Jennifer H from Canada) for sticking it out.

Day 4, W60L, 4.4 km/130m

Pretty good today, except for number 6 where I had to go in circles a couple of times after not being able to use my glasses as well as my magnifier due to fogged glasses. Minor slowdowns to a few other controls. 60 minutes would have put me much closer to Sandy and mbo. I really loved the woods between 9 and 12. I'd go back to Darnaway any time!

Supervet womens sprint in Forres. Fun!!

Edit...my error to 15 was based on standing right next to the feature and looking all around...on the ground...for the flag. It was tucked into the branches of the evergreen/distinct tree!!

Strathfarrar day 2 W60L, 3.8 km 120m climb

Sloppy to number one but then got my head in the game. Started 30 sec behind Sandy because of late arrival due to backups on the roadway leading to the car park. Moved ahead at #5 while she hesitated, but then stuttered at 9 where I slipped and caught a leg in a sinkhole next to a rock (bruise on left knee but not a sensitive area, and I didn't seem to twist the knee too much--still some color two weeks later). A kind lady helped me up and I was able to punch 9 just behind Sandy. Got a bit ahead again at 11-12 but then left in the wrong direction and didn't catch my mistake soon enough. Finished about 35-40 sec behind her... 37 of 83.

Walking warm up/down 24:24 [1] 1.79 km (13:40 / km)
shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-A 2013-08

Back to car from arena

Scottish 6 day, day 1 at Achagour, W60L

I sursvived my first day orienteering in Scotland!

Achagour course 23, 4.9km 100m, 77:55 (ahead of Sandy's 79:10)
Spongy wet terrain in areas but I didn't get stuck anywhere. Unsure of location for a couple and found a larger depression before locating my smaller one but was pretty sure where I was. A bit of trouble with trails on the archery area but others I was spot on and very happy about that. Physical course.

44/82 not quite in the top half, but close.

Note

Got the rental car at a downtown E'burgh Hertz location not too far away from hotel, then drove it back to hotel to load up bags, then drove up to Inverness. Ran into Phil B and Adam, Ron Bortz, and Phil and Sue at check in. Had dinner with P&S at same restaurant in Inverness as Phil and Adam. Then on to our lodgings in Nairn....

Note

Holyroodhouse Palace and the Scottish Museum (at least the Kings of Scotland exhibit and maybe one other), then Kenilworth's on Rose St for not-great fish and chips. Kenilworth's is a Nicholson's Pub restaurant and we didn't find the best food at any others but this was the least good for fish and chips anyway (cod and not haddock, for one thing; undercooked and mushy for another).

Walking 2:00:00 [1]
slept:10.5 shoes: Sauc.Shad-6000#8-2014H

Walking around for most of the day has to count for something, right? My knees are achy and stiff, anyway. Only putting down two hours; walked three to four miles but at a slow pace, looking around and taking breaks. Hotel to Edinburgh Castle to Holyroodhouse to Calton Hill and back to the hotel 10 hours later. A couple of meals and a cup of coffee along the way.

The folks runnng up the path to Salisbury Craigs were working harder. I don't think we'll get up there.

Note

Ed'burgh Castle, lunch at the castle, dinner (good fish and chips...best of the trip in my opinion) at World's End on the Royal Mile, then hiked back to hotel by way of Holyroodhouse Palace and Calton Hill.
