Orienteering race (FH West - Orange) 54:19 [2] 2.95 mi (18:25 / mi) +112m 16:28 / mi

Turkey buzzards did not get me...story to follow.

Orange course Animation - no, not the buzzards... :)

So, the turkey buzzard story - probably funnier if you had been there...the results displays were in a building which had a "no spikes inside" floor, so I decided I would get cardboard from behind a shopping center to lay down on the floor for today. But, first I had to fight the birds off. Like I said, funnier at the time. :)

Orienteering race (Ward Ridge - Orange) 1:08:43 [3] *** 3.8 km (18:05 / km) +120m 15:37 / km

Garmin = 3.06 miles with 171.4 m climb

Back at a national event, in what feels like it has been forever. Happy to get partly set up yesterday, but time ran away fast this morning. Many thanks to Sandy and Amy for the setup help, and for trying to keep me focused, something which seems harder to achieve these days...

Thanks to some more good friends, namely Alli and Ed, who are not just all around fine people, but who also happen to process excellent SI skills, I was able to get out and do the Orange course. Last starter by a ways, but not the last finisher. Butt was tired coming up the big hill, but this was still a fun outing, I didn't care. So much fun, and a good day, what else can I ask for?!

O Training 15:00 [1]

Made it to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation safely, and after setting up the results screens for tomorrow, Joe B and I went to the Start and set up a repeater. Then, he dropped me off at a trail, and I hiked up the hill and put out another repeater, and then back to the finish. No joy, but the woods, and the trails, and the rock walls, in the section I covered were so lovely. I may have to try to get a course into tomorrow...after checking out another option on the repeaters.

So, a couple of days later, I look at the pictures on my phone, and there is this one taken at 4 PM today:

Wow, so beautiful! But, I don't remember taking it, and I think I would remember. Turns out that Joe had taken it with my phone, which was closer than his was at the time. Thanks, Joe!

Biking 31:55 [2] 4.76 mi (6:42 / mi) +149m 6:07 / mi
weight:186lbs

I was maybe out in the woods closer to 30 minutes, but I don't think it quite suited the me time for today, so when we got back to the cabin, Amy cooked dinner, and I took a bike ride in Mountain Lakes Park. Uphill out and downhill back x 3. So nice to just enjoy the ride.

Swimming 30:00 [1]
weight:187lbs

A good choice for the day since my lower body is a bit fatigued...after swimming 30 straight minutes like the lane behind me was on fire, I can say the same about the upper body as well. Nice to even things out. :)

I have made it halfway through the month, so yay for me!

Down to track, then some running laps interspersed with walking laps. Felt good. Determined not to let today be the day.

Biking 50:00 [1] 10.01 mi (5:00 / mi) +2m 4:59 / mi

Last morning, and I decided that I would go all the way to Atlantic City before I headed home.

First up though was a short walk with Nora to Brown's. The story is that my mother walked over there every morning for two cinnamon donuts - warm out of the cooker. So, there we were at the 7 am opening.

They were a little late opening, and there was a line of 10 in front of us, but it was worth the wait!

Then off to AC. Nora asked what proof I would bring back. If this wasn't good enough...

then there was this house, which screamed tacky, which is how I picture AC.

All weekend, I have been threatening to get a tattoo, though I don't know why it is on my mind, and I was mostly kidding. Probably good that there aren't any tattoo parlors in Ocean City, NJ. But, my aunt, and the other two guests have been egging me on, even giving me a coupon for 10% off. And, there it was, at exactly, well, within .01 miles of the 10 mile turn around - the point I had decided would be enough for the day.

It was meant to be! Or, thank goodness it was closed, even the entrance around the side. :)

Misc (Kayaking) 1:00:00 [1] 2.66 mi (22:33 / mi)

Almost to the Atlantic Ocean!!

A different view of the bridge...

I have never been in a kayak on water this big. A little choppy but nothing the sit on top couldn't handle.

The Atlantic City Yacht Club...
12 PM

Biking (Boardwalk) 30:35 [1] 5.37 mi (5:42 / mi)

A ride on the boardwalk, because I could.

The view at the end.

Plenty of people still out.

Note

Walked down to the beach, and on the way we introduced Big Yellow to the others...

Despite being a little intimidated by this big bruiser...

...she decided to stay!!

See you later Big Yellow. Don't blow away!
