Event: QOC McKeldin

Orienteering race (McKeldin Green) 1:36:55 [3] *** 5.4 km (17:57 / km) +210m 15:02 / km
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

First meet of the QOC season. Second day in a row of doing anything since Colorado.

Out late at ~2:15 PM because I didn't track down the map beforehand to go out before epunching duties.

Flummoxed when getting ready because I couldn't find my epunch. As Heidi pointed out, it wasn't like I didn't have access to another. But, ewww, those rental epunches are so gross!! And, I wash the QOC ones on a regular basis...

Anyway, got the course in. Thanks to Greg and Sandy F for sorting out things while I was gone.

Now, the question is - am I training? am I pretending to train? or am I just pretending?

Trail Run (Fountainhead) 48:00 [3] 4.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Working the finish line for the VHTRC Women's Half Marathon at Fountainhead Park, Virginia today. Normally, it would have been a good excuse to blow off another day of training, but I planned ahead instead.

Since I had no real responsibilities until the finishers started coming through, I got there and set up, and then went for a run starting about 815. Almost stretched it to 3 miles each way, but I knew that I would regret that choice on the way back. So, two miles out and back, which was just right.

Struggled to breath a bit until about 20 minutes in. Tried to run some of the little hills which I usually walk up. Splits were 1245 1130 1145 1200 with a break of 115 before starting the return trip.

Race timing went well despite the small numbers which the runners wore all over the place, though none on their backs at least.

Note

Up somewhat early to help Roger over seed the lawn. Awake very early anyway - like 5 AM, though I lounged in bed until 7.

Went to a neighborhood gathering this afternoon - to meet the new neighbors. Lots of people I didn't know. Loud inside. F flies biting outside. And a fear of being cornered by one of the new neighbors. I have taken a particular dislike to her after she walked into my yard and introduced herself while smoking. Then within about 30 seconds she proceeded to tell me how she was almost murdered one time - TMI.

Could not overcome my anxieties, so I left. But not before I had a slice of our most excellent carrot cake.
