Walking warm up/down (To the start) 9:30 [1] 0.65 mi (14:37 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

To the start from the finish.

Orienteering race (SMOC Sunday Green Y) 2:17:08 [3] *** 5.33 km (25:44 / km) +162m 22:20 / km
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Well, if any day in the woods is a good day, then today was really, really good. Yes, that's is, it was really good.

The magnitude of my errors are numerous, but it is not surprising that I blew up in this terrain - all my weakness were emphasized. Huge errors on #5 and #9, and less huge on #10. Total errors about 50 minutes.

But it was a beautiful day, and any day in the woods...

The epunching went well this weekend - of course, the A-team was on hand. Thanks Sandy. Sorry I was so long today.

Walking warm up/down (To the start) 4:20 [1] 0.2 mi (21:39 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

From the finish to the start. The walk along the edge of the gravel pit was cool.

Orienteering race (SMOC Saturday Green) 1:39:27 [4] *** 5.54 km (17:57 / km) +240m 14:45 / km
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Very poor to #2, then not too terrible after that, though it took me to 7 or 8 to navigate cleanly. About 15-18 minutes in error. Actual distance covered was about 8.5 km.

Manned the epunch after finishing. Rented a minivan and set up out of that. It worked really well after we figured out what configuation worked for the invertors to handle the power load.

It was a beautiful day, as was yesterday. And, any day in the woods is a good day.

O Training 40:00 [3] 3.0 mi (13:20 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Banana 3

The first day of the SMOC/Team Trials event near Detroit, MI. I was an early starter on the second sprint course covering Orange/Brown/Green.

Actually warmed up some and then started. Was asked for what course I was doing, and I said Green. It wasn't until I got to the first control, and the code didn't match my separate clue sheet, that I realized that I had been handed a Red/Blue map. Now, I am a firm believer that the responsibility for going out on the correct map belongs to the competitor, even if they are handed the incorrect one. So, I checked the distance, and seeing that it was still a little under 3km, I decided to continue.

Things were going well, but when I got the 5th control, it was not on. The same for #6. At that point, I knew that the others would be starting soon, so I ran by the finish and arranged for replacement controls to be put out. I then went back to #7, and it wasn't working either!! Oh, no, was something wrong with my ecard, or what?! I went on to #8, and it was on. So, I ran by the finish again and reported #7, and asked that the starts be delayed until I checked the others.

I went to the rest of the controls in reverse order, and back to the finish. After that, I revisted #7, and another control on the White/Yellow course.

So, I was unofficial, but I got a run in. And any day in the woods, is a good day.

Note

Got Roger off to Iowa this morning - he is going for his mother's 90th birhtday on Saturday.

After work, I "rested" for a couple of hours - should have run, but I had no motivation. Then I gathered up 20+ bags of recycling and got those to the car.

It feels like a wasted day, and it was at times, but it also wasn't, so I am not going to worry about it too much.
