Orienteering (night) race 1:21:36 [5] 11.0 km (7:25 / km) +420m 6:14 / km
shoes: Icebug

British night champs - 6th
Set off well having worked out #1 in the start lane. Mostly clean through the open section apart from occasionally finding it tough to spot the earth walls in the dark.
Climbed a lot on the long leg going all the way up the track, but then benefited from an easy path run in to the control and it was nice to switch off for a bit on the path run.
Nick Barrable caught me around #17 - very pleased with that as he started 5 mins back. We then rattled through a few and I managed to stay with him taking direct lines in/out of controls. Then misread the route to #24 and stayed too far right, which was a shame.
Started to get really tired on the climb up to #30 and then lost concentration to #32 and left the road without knowing how high I was. Luckily the big reentrant was a good catching feature and I got back on track quickly.
So overall a very good run, with only a few hesitations and that loss of focus at the end. Finishing 6th is obviously a bit misleading - but 10 mins down on rich Robinson (ranked 5th), 8 down on barrable, 3 down on Andrew Llewelyn (both 20-odd) and a minute up on joe Taunton (50-odd) is probably as well as I've ever run. Really pleased as I thought I could have a good night run in me this year.

Kenyan hills in BPP
Times a tad slower than usual as the ground is very heavy & slippy. Didn't take my watch though - been a stressful week at work so had no appetite for stressing about what times I was running.
