Harriet Hollister Spencer Rec Area, Red M35, 4 km, 145 m, 5th, 1st "M35". Pretty good for the most part. One real stinker leaving #5 when I managed to turn way off course and figured it out when I saw a house (in the OOB area). A couple of other legs where I drifted some but spotted some features that I could identify that put me back on track. Barked my right shin quite painfully coming into the first control, and I said some bad words, but after a minute or so it didn't hurt too badly. The four guys who beat me were all on M45, and the time I lost wouldn't have moved me up a spot. Came away with a little jug of maple syrup, and that's definitely worthwhile!

Across the street. Dang, no map data, not sure what happened there. The watch froze up when I first tried to use it (that happened once before), and I had to turn it off completely and start it up again. Then maybe I started the run before it got GPS lock? Don't now. Need to figure out how to make sure I don't do that again.

WBNW. The thing about planning a route out using my mental map of this place is that I don't get a length measurement. I was thinking this might be shorter than what I wanted to do today, but it wasn't. Added a bit of extra distance due to exploring a new trail (the map shows it as one of several light green passages through medium green, but it's a pretty fine trail now), and another because I overran a really faint trail and even had trouble finding it on the second try.
One weird thing on the way in: the car behind me signaled the same way as me when I turned onto the dead-end road to where I was parking. It looked like it was turning into the Day 1 start area, but then it followed me up the rutted dirt road and all the way to the parking at the end. I wondered if somebody else was going for a hike, or if somebody wanted to talk to me. But then the car kept going into the woods, which I found really puzzling, because there's a gate there that's usually closed. Sure enough, and instead of backing out, it did a multi-point turn and then drove out. Toyota Corolla sedan, driven by an older woman (by which I don't necessarily mean older then me).
