Sprint-O at Hyland. Started off after a 5 minute jog to warm up.
Direct to CP1. Very thick and slow, not sure there was a better option though - was 2 seconds off of Biz's fastest leg.
Trail to second bend, then direct to CP2, spiked it.
To CP3, stayed high, not sure if going direct over the lake might have been better.
Exited west to hilltop, then trail to bench. Had a gnarly side stich on this trail run, bad cramping. Should have warmed up more! From bench then followed bearing to hilltop - CP was on ruin south of hilltop. BUT the hilltop had no ruin south of it! Wasted 90 seconds thrashing in buckthorn here. Turns out the hilltop I was searching near was mapped as a double knoll. Damn, didn't look that way to me but fair enough, must have followed a bad bearing.
On way to 5 I relaxed and reset, tried to get my cramp to go away, slow pace a deep breaths, decided to run the remainer of the course balls to the wall after taking this one slow.
CP 6 over parking lot, then around left side of dark green. Spiked fastest split.
CP7 stayed low, fastest split again.
CP8 plan was to run the trail around, bailed on that plan, went over the hill. Lost 5 seconds-ish to Biz and Andrei here.
Red line while redlining to CP9. Spiked it, but Biz still put 15 second into me here.
Last CP not eventful - sprint on cx trail home.
Fun course! Good run but for bad warm up and one blown control. Thanks for setting Ian!
Should have done some harder running during my warm-up.
Yowsa!!! 35:00 [2]
Riding the new Fat bike, warming up for the sprint, snowball fighting, setting the bearing and distance course, etc.
