Running warm up/down (Trail/grass) 3:40 [2]
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

After a huge tail-back to get parked at the JK Relays they said they had put the starts back by an hour so the stressing in the car was over.

Running warm up/down (Trail/grass) 3:08 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Plenty of time to get sorted and go for another pee.
Until I came back into the assembly field to have Matt Rooke shouting at me that I had 3 mins until the start...
Luckily I had everything to hand and just had to throw off my jacket.
Turns out that some people had complained that they had flights to catch so they changed the start delay to 45 mins and I hadn't got the message!

Orienteering race (Forest) 34:08 [5]
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

So I barrelled through the crowd of people lining up to get their maps for later mass starts and made it to the start line with 2 mins to go.
I don't think that I managed to get my race plan in mind because of all this.
Long (34 min) story short: not able to run very fast but quite strong; not very sharp with the navigation but not making big mistakes. Got a bit sloppy in the mid section and at the penultimate controls.
Got past Duncan Archer, Jack Wood and Phil Winskill at the end for a bit of pride.
Some chunky looking guy kept cutting me off in the finish chute (results suggest it was Maliphant). May have said something that was a bit louder than intended that showed my opinion of this tactic.
Matt went out to have a good run backed up by Rhys. Will be good to have a fully fit team at some point!

Running warm up/down (Trail/grass) 7:10 [2]
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Joined Lizzie Adams' warm-up for my belated warm-down before watching Matt and Rhys hand over.

Running hills (Fell) 1:05:33 [2]
shoes: Salomon Fellraiser

Parked on the E edge of Greendale and went up Middle Fell, down the spur to the N and then kind of contoured around to Glade How and Buckbarrow. I was only in the cloud on Middle Fell so had some nice views as I crossed the marshes. Caught the odd glimpse of Illgill Head when some of the cloud blew over.
Bimbled around the lumps on Buckbarrow to make sure I went to the Wainwright before doing a little more marsh running and visiting a small mortared tower on the hillside. No idea why it"s there! Carried on around to Brown Tongue to get on the Wasdale race route and back to the car.
Had thought of doing a lap of Wast Water to take in Illgill Head aswell but I thought my relay performance at the JK would definately suffer and I don't want to let the team down.

Running warm up/down (Trail) 7:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Found the path around the W end of Ennerdale Water has been turned into a metalled track. Bit of a shame.
7 PM

Running warm up/down (Grass) 1:30 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Drill, jog, stride and walk.
Butt kicks and high knees.

Orienteering race (Trail/forest) 22:26 [5]
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Sprint event. Not particularly well planned but a good blast around.

Running hills (Fell/trail) 30:50 [2]
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

From the Ennerdale car-park onto the path towards Crag Fell and then straight up to Grike once over the stile at the edge of the woods.

General Strengthening 17:20 [2]

Myrtyl protocol book-ended by planks (20s standard straight into 20s leg lifts). Didn't do the leg swings though due to time constraints.

Cycling warm up/down (Stationary) 3:00 [3]

Cycling intervals (Stationary) 15:00 [5]

5x 3mins hard with 90s rests.
Started doing a level 15 effort at 95rpm but it was bloody hard work on the quads so did level 14 for the next one at 100rpm. The quads didn't hurt so much on the second but I thought I'd change it to level 13 to make it a bit more easy on the quads but keep it hard on the lungs.
Did 3 of these at 105rpm. Almost stopped after the 4th but manned-up.

Cycling intervals (Stationary) 9:00 [1]

The recoveries and a 3 min warm-down.
Good stretch-out afterwards.
