Adventure Race 12:31:00 [3]
slept:7.0 weight:174lbs

Frustrating end to the race, found the last bike CP and thought we had a pretty straight shot to TA 3 and expect to arrive around 2:30 to 3am. We had hit everything so far and were happy with the race to this point. We hooked up with another team briefly, but they dropped us on a rock garden decent. We then made a minor mistake, but corrected it and found the correct trail. Then we made our typical fatal navigation mistake that blew up the race. The trailed zig zagged across a stream multiple times and at this point we met another team. We started travelling with them and came to an intersection and after a little debate we followed them into what turned into a multihour mistake (We had avoided this on the prior checkpoint when we bumped into a team that tried to tell us we were going the wrong way --- we continued and found the checkpoint a few miles away). Anyway, we ultimately back tracked to the correct location and ground our way back to the transition. Witnesses may have heard me say more than once that this is my last race since I always screw up the navigation and must accept this fate, but now I am not sure. Need to give it some time. Reflections a day later are that it was a great race in an amazing area of the country with really friendly and talented race community. Some frustration still lingers and will need to figure things out regarding the future.

Adventure Race race 15:00:00 [3]
slept:7.0 weight:174lbs

The weather forecast varied greatly with snow two day before the race started. However, it provided some of the best race weather I have been in for any sport. We were a little disappointed that the moving water canoe river paddle was cancelled due to high water levels and this was replaced by a long lake paddle. Beautiful area. It also featured an interesting twist with individual "O" legs that each team member needed to complete one leg. Overall, decent start to the race and at the expected pace since my teammate has knee surgery scheduled tomorrow.
