Green course at HSP Turkey Hill. Plan was to get there early, run the course, then meet up with Matt, Ching-Hua and Tai for a walk together. However, it wasn’t going well, and when I got way off on the way to 6 and off the map, it seemed like time to just go back. But not knowing where I was exactly, I just headed S, thinking I would get back, getting increasingly frustrated. Finally heard the traffic on LMP, but I had passed just east of the parking area, so a lot of extra distance. As for the part of the course I did, stumbling down the rocky hill to #1, lots of scary trips, came out at the bottom near where I needed to be, but didn’t see any little reentrant, so hied myself off to the left where there was a larger one, and then, too high on the hill, back to the N going past it, finally relocated off the bend in the stream, and it was right in front of me. 2 was ok, 3 I passed on he right and had to climb back up. 4 and 5 were fine, then up the hill to go left of the top just fine, but then could not keep a compass line. Try to go east, take just a few steps and heading N. huh? Did that about 5 times, came to a marshy area, but it was clearly he wrong one, and then decided just to go back DNF. Probably would have been easier to just continue the course. Looking at my track, I went right through the circle at 6, but by then I didn't know where I was and was just hoping to get back. I suppose if I had known I would have just kept going on the course.

Also a short visit with Dave Webber, and then Joe and Pavi.

In the gym with Eric. Relatively light. A lot of the mobility exercises and bands, some goblet squats, pushups, bird dips.

Pretty successful outing at McLean's, although another missed turn. The objective was to get under an hour, and made that pretty convincingly in that I was under an hour with an extra .23 from the wrong turn. Uphill to get back on course, and I was pretty cooked by then, so seams like this would have been the equivalent of high 56s if I had just stayed on course. Turned too soon in a place where there were a lot of leaves down, sun was in my eyes, and an extra blazed trail. In retrospect, the blaze was blue and I had been following purple.

Out with Rhonda. Cold, windy.
8 AM

Note

Rhonda took that nice old boy Moe to the vet this morning. He had a tough weekend, lethargic, not eating, etc. Seems to be an infection of some sort, but at his age these things are serious.

10 AM

Hike 1:24:58 intensity: (9 @0) + (16 @1) + (7:19 @2) + (1:09:06 @3) + (7:01 @4) + (1:07 @5) 2.97 mi (28:36 / mi) +241m 22:51 / mi
ahr:138 max:217

With Rhonda and our friend Jan hiking the town’s Cannon property. Jan is hoping to improve the trails and get mountain bike access. After a bit we just headed home as I had a doctor’s appt.
1 PM

Note

Visit with the estimable Dr Gronski for my neck. Upshot was a lidocaine shot in the trapezius, which felt like an immediate improvement, and prescribed a 6 day course of prednisone. If it doesn’t improve, next will come an MRI of the neck.

With Rhonda at the lake. Another difficult night with the persistent headache. Walking clears it up, or at least being up and around clears it up, until the next evening or prolonged period of sitting.

Hike 43:38 intensity: (8:29 @1) + (33:52 @2) + (1:17 @3) 1.45 mi (30:05 / mi) +41m 27:38 / mi

Checking out the dog loop. Lots of sticks on the trail, but no major obstacles. Oak saplings in the clear cut definitely had a hard time of it. Many of them bent over double by the weight of snow on their leaves.
