First time back in a while and so I expect to be sore. WOD was one of three randomly assigned, with a chance of a blind swap. Stuck with what I got. 50 burpees, 75 situps, 1000 m on ski erg, 30 pushups, 6 lengths of the gym bear crawls, run 800 m carrying a medicine ball (10 #). 24:30. Rhonda was on a different workout, and finished first. No surprise. She is plenty tough.

cycling 38:00 [3] 8.6 mi (4:25 / mi)

Swapped out our pedals for SPDs, and rode in mountain bike shoes. Not much time, so just a short trip around the river from Pleasant Valley.

Bye Bye Bike Ride, longer loop. Part of very fine going away party for Marie and a bit later for Mike, as they are moving to Sweden, Marie in 2 weeks, Mike in a few months. Lovely people, and a great pleasure to have known them.

Started out with Rhonda hanging onto a group of Joe, Peter, Jeff, Judy and George, but periodically falling off, only to find them again when they were puzzling out one of the 12 questions for along the ride, or at the Chester street market. After the Chester Hadlyme ferry trip across the Connecticut, we lost them for good before we got to Joshuatown Rd, with its three climbs.

On the path next to the highway bridge over the river the Garmin battery died. This has been a recurring problem lately. It claims to be fully charged, but starts to deliver the low battery message somewhere between 1 and 2 hours, and then dies. Fixable? Or just time for a new one?

Combination of a lousy night's sleep and a harder ride than I am used to resulted in a substantial nap on returning home.

cycling 25:00 [3] 5.4 mi (4:38 / mi)

Rest of the ride, including a side trip to pick up an answer I had missed on the way out.

A stroll around with Rhonda and Sassy, inspecting the forest now that the fences have come down. Much too lethargic today for any useful exercise.

East Chop and West Chop, and then my knee was sore, probably from the run yesterday. So home.

Note

One last trip to Quansoo Beach with our friends the O'Malleys and their two very fine young daughters, ages 6 and 4. They are quite enamored with Zack, and he has been very nice to them, including a fair amount of time reading with Katelyn, the elder. Fun riding the tide through the cut into Tisbury Great Pond. Quansoo is private, our attendance enabled by our friend Susan, who has a key to the gate and accompanied us also.

A little different route this morning. A bit lethargic and not sure we were going at all. By the time we left it was a bit too late for our intended ride out to Aquinnah, and a bit too late for it to be amusing to go through Vineyard Haven. We took the bike path along State Beach to Edgartown, and then rode down to Katama, back on Herring Creek Rd and Clevelandtown Rd to the bike path through the State Forest and home via Barnes Rd. Cycling has been going well, and I have been generally feeling a bit better as the week goes on. Less stiff and sore. Nice morning.

The classic East Chop run from 35 years ago, contested many times back in the 70s and 80s with my friends Dave and Bob. Couldn't talk either of them into it this time, so by myself. I think the best times for this run were in the 19s back then. Some years I was best, some years Dave, and one notable year Bob was in pretty good shape and beat us both. Now Dave is nursing a sore knee, and Bob, well I don't think Bob does this sort of thing at all anymore. Pretty sure this is the first time I have run this particular course this millennium, so a PR of sorts, if far from the times of the old days. Pretty hot, and stressful on glut and ham. Not sure when this run might be contested again.

Earlier start made quite a difference. Much nicer going through VH at 6:15 instead of 7. A little different route, including a trip around Lambert's cove road and out North Rd to Tabor House, back Middle. With Rhonda

Started a bit late, and the traffic was heavy. Really need to get out before 6 for optimum conditions. Through Vineyard Haven, out to West Tisbury and a loop around Panhandle, then back through the State Forest. With Rhonda, who took a little tumble at the intersection of State Rd and Panhandle. We need to work more on her low speed bike handling skills, especially in advance of our trip in 3 weeks. Nice. We are very slow, but I feel my legs getting a bit stronger, and particularly feel my R adductor seeming to get stronger. That has been an issue for a while.
