Running long 1:21:30 [3]

Got called into work until 3pm and had to quickly have some lunch when I finished, and then I had to wait out the end of 10mila because it was just too exciting to leave!! The plan ended up being to run to the gym and finish off the last 30 or so on the treadmill when it got too dark, but then I realised that the gym was going to shut at 5 so I had to settle for a very loopy 55min around the trails near home with the last 25 in the street lights. Joints were super achy by the end, probably a combination of the cold and standing at work and at a festival yesterday. Happy enough with how I was feeling at the end otherwise though.

Running warm up/down 23:30 [3]

Slack little 10min warm down in an attempt to save the blisters.

Running 21:59 [3]

Nothing like a parkrun to make you realise what you've lost! An absolute struggle from about the 2km mark which is very very early on haha. A bit nervous about how long it will take to get this time back down to at least where it was, but still, really happy to be back doing this again!

cycling 45:00 [3]

Cycle class at the gym. It was a good one, legs were hurting. Got my orthotics sorted this morning so hopefully these blisters will ease and I won't get new ones. Went for a walk this morning too, my legs needed loosening after yesterday's strength shock.

Netball 30:00 [3]

Beyond excited to get to play netball again wooooooo. Full game at GS which may have not been the greatest for the team haha. Felt a bit rusty and the blisters on my feet have not pulled up well at all, but I loved it. Probably the last time I do leg strength just before netball though, my legs were so so jelly for the entire first half.

Running tempo 1:00:00 [3]

15min jog, 3x8min tempo w/ 2min between, 15min jog. Was dark when I finished uni so my only real option was to jump on the treadmill, hopefully my calves don't punish me too much tomorrow because of it... Felt quite good running though surprisingly. Had to quicken the pace for each of them because I was coping quite well, although I do think it's probably quite a bit easier on the treadmill. Sadly the blisters haven't toughened up at all, they're actually quite red so I might have to give the podiatrist a ring tomorrow.

Running warm up/down 35:00 [3]

Warm up w/ some drills and warm down. Started absolutely pouring and the wind picked up just as I was finishing the warm up- impeccable timing...

Running intervals (Mona) 20:00 [3]

Absolutely chuffed to do my first proper running session in like 70 days! Not quite so chuffed at how horrid I felt. Felt really good for the first half but as soon as I turned around and started running into the wind I dropped off and was maybe 20m from getting back to the start... It has been a while though, and hadn't had the greatest weekend as far as sleep and eating etc goes so not at all surprised I felt a bit dodgy. Got that post intervals feeling in my quads, beautiful.

Running 44:15 [3]

I can't sleep in like everyone else so I got up for a little morning jog. Blisters are still there but no pain in my foot like yesterday. Enjoyed it, so many people out running and cycling along the beach it was so nice!

Running 34:00 [3]

In Melbourne for a few days with friends and slipped out for a quick jog while they napped. Ran along the beach from St Kilda, a little rainy but it was nice! Not sure how much more than this I'll get to do. Plus my foot has pulled up a little sore today (Saturday :( )

Running 1:03:30 [3]

At Glenrock with some on and off company from mum. Yesterday's Easter chocolate binge had me feeling pretty below average but my legs were surprisingly strong up easy way out and my foot was pretty great! Got blisters in the arch of each foot though which isn't ideal, went for a walk this morning to try and get used to the orthotics but maybe that was a bad move. Anyway I had a tonne of fun, longest training jog in quite a while!

Wednesday Apr 19, 2017 #

Running 34:00 [3]

Jog with Josh on the trails from home. Cannot believe how noticeable the new orthotics are, there's a fair few muscles in my lower legs which apparently haven't worked a lot in a while so they got super tight! Two spots where I think I might get blisters too so I may have to ease into it a bit, but the foot wasn't too bad at all!

Strength + Conditioning 15:00 [3]

Real good stretch/yoga sesh

Note
(rest day)

Picked up my new orthotics and went for a walk along the beaches to start wearing them in. Legs are feeling a bit tired!

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Orienteering race 50:45 [3]
(injured)

Not enough days in New Zealand to redeem myself. Started ok but I took a really silly route choice to 3 and couldn't really get past it mentally because I knew i'd lost so much time. Orienteered well 6-9 but I was so bad at dealing with the slippery ground that it didn't really make much of a difference. Then tried to go a bit too straight to 10 and hadn't planned how to navigate the cliffs closely enough and got stuck, and then stopped one cliff line too early aswell. Winsplits hasn't even picked up all my mistakes though so I think that shows I was just woeful in the slippery terrain, far too much of a weakling. Legs were struggling of course after three races but I feel like I was slightly stronger than I thought i'd be after the preparation, although the speed was definitely lacking. Extremely disappointed overall though. It was such a great chance to get such awesome race practice in such awesome terrain and I feel so bummed that I orienteered so poorly and wasted it. Well and truly got myself a nice list of things to work on.

Orienteering race (Oceania Relay) 57:13 [3]
(injured)

My goodness, what a shocker. Started good, really good focus and felt pretty ready to race properly with other people around, but thats also what made me come undone. Lost sight of Tash and Krystal coming out of 4 but saw Katie and thought it was going to be really good to have someone pushing me to race hard still, so I decided to slightly change my route choice to 5 and go a bit straighter to stay near her but I completely lost it. It was vague in there and without a proper plan and attackpoint I had no hope, kept trying to relocate off tracks that weren't tracks and started to get into a real panic because I knew i'd screwed it. It'd be alot easier to look at the positives of the race if number 5 wasn't such a huge blow up, honestly have no idea what I was doing. Maybe too focussed on proving myself after the mp and not enough on how to orienteer, absolutely kicking myself.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

A bit slack with the warm down, the foot was a bit sore

Orienteering long (Oceania Long) 1:34:24 [3]

Ahhhhhhhhhh so so cranky with myself. Honestly think it must've been the only control of the course I didn't check the code, and it was because I got there at the same time as Katie and it all looked right so I didn't even consider we would both be wrong.
Apart from that though I messed up 1 quite bad, didn't really give enough credit to the low visibility and wasn't careful enough with my compass. Then didn't really get into race mode until about number 5. The next bit was good but I messed 14 quite bad and then was really sloppy with my planning and exit direction on the last 5 or so. Didn't completely die in the legs but definitely fatigued a lot, but surprised to not be too far behind in time considering. WinSplits say 11mins of mistakes and an mp, so pretty mad overall.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3]

Orienteering race (Oceania sprint. ) 17:29 [3]

Really fun but I didn't quite have the legs for it. Couldn't hold the speed and really struggled with all the acceleration. Made some small silly errors but left me feeling positive enough for the rest of the races.

Running 23:00 [3]

Jog with some surges with Heather to spark up the legs. No cyclone in sight, hooray.

Running 40:00 [3]
(injured)

15 min jog, 4x1/1, 4x30/30, 14min jog. Bit depressing how hard I found it to run at an 'ok' pace for just a minute... but the foot was ok after a warm up and I could've kept going so I should stop having a whinge.

Running warm up/down 16:00 [3]

11ish warm up 5ish warm down.

Orienteering race (NOY 1) 30:26 [3]
(injured)

Instructed to do a half hour and I was pretty bung on if you get rid of the 20seconds I lost at the end trying to find the finish... Really really fun! A bit sloppy with my compass discipline a few times and luckily got away with it because it was so open, but that definitely won't be the case next weekend! I guess it was good collecting features practice though. Foot was a bit sore in the warm up but pretty well forgot about it when I was out there, apart from when I was pushing it up hills and could hear my podiatrist in my head telling me to avoid hills and accelerations...

Note

Late night getting home from the footy and I worked all day so had to prioritise either sleep or an easy session. Chose sleep, and glad I did because a good four people at work were coughing and sneezing :|

cycling 1:15:00 [3]
(injured)

Didn't have an abundance of energy this morning. Legs were a little tired and I had a bit of a headache, but that was probably because my shoulders and neck pulled up sore from the rowing too. 3 x 10min tempos thrown in there to make it interesting.

Wednesday Apr 5, 2017 #

Running 20:00 [3]
(injured)

Five minutes walk to warm up a little, and then I jogged! And it wasn't even that sore woo! Didn't feel toooooo unfit and sluggish and unco either which was nice.

Rowing 25:00 [3]

10min easy to start, then 5x2/1. Oh my god. So hard.

Running 15:00 [3]

Was meant to warm down on the rower but I didn't want an extra minute of that, plus I got a nice blister on my finger. Had jelly legs and a stomach ache, but still fun to run.

Strength + Conditioning 30:00 [3]
(injured)

Before the cycle, mostly core and leg strength.

cycling 45:00 [3]
(injured)

Another huge day at Uni so I went to the cycle at the Forum before I headed home. I'll be honest, didn't love it. I feel like attempting to cycle at 140rpm is just a little bit ridiculous, and i'm not sure how people were doing it let alone after 8 dial changes?! Anyway, quickly realised I was better off modifying the class and I still worked hard.

(rest day)

Didn't really want to have a full rest day but there weren't enough hours for training...

Sunday Apr 2, 2017 #

cycling long 1:50:00 [3]
(injured)

Read some journal articles which killed a good hour but the pages started disintegrating a little too much from the sweat to do that any longer. Pretty ready to stop after about 80min and started to get a little hungry but I didn't want to go home and write my report so I soldiered on.

Saturday Apr 1, 2017 #

cycling intervals 1:00:00 [3]
(injured)

15min warm up, 6x 4/1, 15min warm down. Such a nice morning for a run, chuffed to have spent it in a sweaty cycle room.
