Orienteering race 1:26:00 [4] 7.0 km (12:17 / km)

Long race at Kangaroo Crossing. Really really enjoyed running in the forest, however once again I didn't cover myself in glory. Took the high route to the first control, partly because I wanted to run hard at the start. But I couldn't pick up the re-entrant I was aiming for to drop into the control - probably should have gone a bit higher and safer, or lower. Lots of people lost time here.
Had some great and very enjoyable controls (2, 3, 5) and some awful ones too, just not navigating properly. The forest was lovely though. Tried to keep up with Hanny when she came past towards the end, but looked up and she had gone already, managed half a leg so pleased with that ;-)
More work to do on the navigating and getting my head in the right place I think, will be good to do some work on safer routes in thicker areas, and I missed a good safe route around picking up a path at one point too.
Disappointingly (for me) it is now the other Clare B 3 vs my 0 - bring on Easter!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Short and easy warm up before the race.

Orienteering 1:17:00 [3] 3.3 km (23:20 / km)

Hmm, trying to find the positives in this race is slightly tricky!
Positive 1: my legs felt fantastic running.
Positive 2: my mum didn't see a snake on her course and there weren't any scary spiders
Positive 3: the course was only 3.3km
I was really looking forward to this, and then just couldn't read the map or find any controls, I got more and more fed up, and to top it off I failed to follow anyone properly and get a tow either (I was being too pig headed to follow people). See Craney's log for my boo complaints ;-) I will just add though, that my mum ran on the 1:5,000 map, and had one or two controls the same as me. And her map bears no relationship in these areas to mine. I don't really understand how one event can have two completely different maps by different mappers - completely bonkers.
Moan over. However much I disagree with the map scale or the style of mapping, the fact is I coped with it the least well out of everyone, and a personal worst result of last, five mins down on the person in front.
Have decided not to worry about not being able to navigate on this course, and just forget about it.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Warm up, no warm down.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

First spin out on my new bike! Very excited and looking forward to this - I even got up super early on a day off work to head out. With Rob - a meandering route to the boulevard, and then one full loop, back via everyday coffee of course.
Really enjoyed this, worked a lot harder than I should have done today, but my bike handling and descending skills need some practice. It felt quite tough on the quads, but the hills that would be mountains on my other bike are only hills on this one. Looking forward to heading out some more, but a bit daunted by the prospect of going riding with Claire and Kate....

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back. Early morning gym fail, oh well, strength training is overrated.

Cycling 45:00 [1]

To work and back via track

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3]

First time out with the ath club for ages. Good night - loads of people there. Warm up, drills, strides and warm down.

Running 30:00 [4]

3 x Optus oval reps incl recovery jogs. Felt tough - missed starting with the girls, and spent the whole session failing to catch them, running on my own. Good to do something harder, although the le gth of the reps meant it was more tempo than anything else.
