Day 5 culbin

What a babe of a forest, had to plan our own course in group focusing on a particular idea, ours was keeping on track with I chose because of my lack of concentration on the first control yesterday. We went of a course which was constantly changing to keep you on your toes and trying to tired you out and catching you out with a tricky sections at the end when you are tired. Was going well until I fell in to that very tap, I wouldn’t say I was going to fast but was just slightly off my compass in the green and just missed the control, then got myself confused, tried to relocated, got there in the end but enede up going way back to where I knew I was
Then did the control flow was was good, a bit sticky at the start but got into it and really enjoyed it
Only time to do half of the simplification as had to go collecting controls.

Day 4 anagach

One of my favourite areas and a really good day, hip feeling good after some major tennis ball action. Did warm up and drills the some first controls to practice on first control routine and try put it under pressure, it worked for the first one but then I got the hang of it and into my routine, first one I just didn’t keep on track and thought to much about the route and not the attack point or execution in the circle.
Then we did a relocation exercise with jo, I am kinda of losing the benefits in this exercise especially in and area like such as the features are so big and there are many paths so easy to follow where you going.
Finally we did an mass distractions exercise in a trains format, I didn’t get distracted by the coaches but def by the other juniours. I was never completely distracted but definitely more aware of the at some points.

Then we came back for a physical session which was no where near as bad as expected, 1,2,3,4,4,3,2,1 with equal rest going on time set by my 5km time, basically learnt I can push and should push myself more on the 3 or 5km, this this would be easier to do when running with people,

Started with warm up and drills then meant to be doing 25,51, 1.15,142

Day 3 dalashyle

Well hip was sore from the start so was basically how long I could put up with it for.
Happened this was the day they were mega big on warm up as part of the routine so just got sorer. Did the control pick 2 course first, was good as had to keep concentration as lots of people around, had to slow down when vegetation changed and then got more confident as it went on. Shadowed steve hale for the last 3 controls, made me reaslise really how fast you have to go and that I could actually keep up with him, only problem was I could no way navigate at that speed, I could follow his thoughts but not think myself. Was really good tho,
Then went out on the micro course, it was pretty rubbish because half of the controls were in this unmapped felled area, so after that I was pretty exhausted and uninspired, basically at each control there were 2 si’s and you have to punch the correct on, so using descriptions as part of your routine.

Finally I did one of the trains but then I really couldn’t go any further, just walked back.
Was a bit down but tired not to really show it as knew just had to keep on stretching and not much else, some good points to the day but not many

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]

Day 2 achlean,

Attack points course to start, felt it was pretty easy was moving well and not real mistakes.
Then did some of the compass star exercise, basically it was horrendous, practiced on my compass a lot since last year but it is still not my style of orienteering at all, cannot focus on both my compass and pacing at the same time it just doesn’t work. The first one I ended up basically going round in a big circle so came back and did it again just focusing on my compass and using my distance judgement which seemed to work, did 2 more which were much better but going on compass

Then did talk-o with Rhona, was good learnt that some times I need to look up more as noticed a lot more when rhona was navigating and was just looking

Then 2 of the renamed ‘ nothing something nothing’ course as hip was getting rather sore

Badaguish day 1 battan
Middle/long race

Meant to be focusing on routines this week so but everyone to the test on the first day with a race. Found it hard to really focus on it as a big races as just not the build up before so felt pretty calm, was clean but just not going fast enough to really puch my navigation
Was 4th I think behind roz(55mins) jo and kirstin, bit of a slow first day as long drive up there and morning session in lodges

Running tempo 12:34 [3] 3.0 km (4:11 / km)

thought i'd go see how speed was and a more recent time might be better than this time last year. A 30 sec improvement from summer'10 but considering recent training i'm hopeful that this can be greatly improved on. felt actually very good for first 2k but then flack of fittness appear and last bit was a struggle, no hip pain tho :)

def going to do this again at the end of the summer when all is good again
