Orienteering race (Pygmy Goat) 1:30:01 [4]

Pygmy Goat at Ward Pound Ridge near Cross River, NY. Chilly, breezy day, but great running weather in fabulous forest. Wonderful open woods, pretty easy navigation, not too many rocks underfoot. Had a great day--lots of fun. Screwed up 7-8 when I went 7-9 and found the code was wrong. It's been a long time since I've had a tight loop and I was careless. Had I taken the time for a drink at #7, I'd have looked at my map and probably avoided the mistake. Oh, the time I lose trying to save time. Surprised when I returned to #9 when I realized that since I was skipping #10, I only had to get back to the (near) finish where #11 was. Felt pretty good for most of the leg and thought maybe I should have done the full Billygoat, then I had to climb only 2 gradual contours to get to #11 and had to walk. I chose the right course. Enjoyed seeing others out there. Glad there's a Pygmy Goat option. Fun course. Thanks for Rick DeWitt and crew for a great day.
