Kings Canyon Rim walk, well deserved reputation as a great walk. Amazing number of people out given the remoteness of the place. With good rains nice and green with good bird life and flowers. Water in the gorges

+ 1 hour photo and viewing time

Around the base of Uluru, lots of photo stops. Very busy with the bike hire guy saying he had 90 bookings, some wobbly riders. Coach tours and Segway tours added to the crowds, as ever more than 1km from the car parks the were far fewer people.

Sunrise viewing station at midday so only 2 other cars in an enormous car park. Coach parking section had room for at least 50 coaches, would not want be there if they all turned up!

A bit of the field of lights which is an amazing art installation. Costs $$$ but very impressive.

Only turns on the gps after wandering in the lights for a while.

Exploring Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)

Fascinating scenery so close to Uluru but quite different, the rock is very course conglomerate whereas Uluru is a finer grained sandstone. The deposition of such a think bed of conglomerate must be quite unusual as well over 100m think, that is exposed. The geomorpholgy with a series of steep domes and gorges is again quite the contrast to Uluru which is just one massive dome. In many ways a much more interesting feature

The loop walk is a nice way to see Kata Tjuta as you cross a couple of saddles and drop into the centre of the range with fine views of the peaks. The path is pretty rocky but some of the guidelines of grade 4 difficulty are as ever over stated. Quite a few flowers out mostly Mulla Mulla but a few other bright yellow ones that might be goodenia, in the gullies Spearwood white bells were plentiful and some flowering acacia. Lots of bird life, spotted one budgerigar but it was too quick for me to get a photo.

Had only two people stop and ask me where there were and "how far to ...?" amazing how poorly researched and lacking in basic reading skills some people seem to be. There are signs with distances, maps on boards and basic but decent readily available at info centres etc. There was also a walk book for sale "Bests Walks in the Red Centre" which has been added to my library. Maybe it just that I might look like I know what I am doing hiking but!!

Walpa Gorge Kata Tjuta NP.

Walk in and out of a steep sided gorge with small creek still flowing at the end. Even more rocky than the loop walk but again a nice view

Seems the GPS signal was not great on either walk as some loops that I did not walk showing, a bit like the building hoping that shows on sprint events.
