La Sportiva Lake District Mountain Trial. Loweswater.
Been on my list of races to do for a long time but never made it (except in 2013 when it got rained off). A lovely day with high visibility but cloud cover so not too hot. Still drank quite a lot though.
http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/en/d...https://www.sportident.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#13Planned to go very steady as both Ennerdale and Kentmere were a bit rough and I wanted to enjoy it. A nice chill run out and then on the path to 1 Hector came flying past already catching me 3min about 20min into the course and then was well gone by the time we reached one.
Sasha (5min) then came past out of one and ran with him a bit on the lovely ridge before the grim out and back contouring to two which took it's toll on my joints. Climbed too high to three even though I knew it was contouring just got dragged by others annoyingly.
Four was the first real routechoice and I decided to take advantage of some path running and went left (didn't see the further left option though). In hindsight straight may have been slightly better but wasn't too far off other peoples times. Left Knee was pretty sore in the terrain here which was quite worrying but was very intermittent and mostly fine so kept moving.
Out of four I was a bit tired but had a big drink and a disgusting caffeine gel and decided it was time to start pushing as the last section looked pretty short. I knew I wanted to avoid High Stile and Red Pike so went to the right. The path died after the woods which led to some very grim heather bashing and then I started going into the wrong valley but corrected quickly.
Six was lovely along the Ennerdale trod and I had energy so was moving nicely here. Struggling again in the rougher stuff around the control and up to the path for seven but then a lovely grassy descent and run back and finished not feeling horrendous which is a first for me on these long races.
Surprised to see Hector was only just ahead of me at the finish and even more surprised to see Sasha finish 10min behind me after he decided to go up High Stile. Splits show I was moving well in the last couple of hours.
Podium chilli and sitting around afterwards with other people was lovely.
