Northern Champs - High Dam
Aimed to set off easy and just try to navigate better than yesterday and keep moving forwards. Made quite a few small mistakes (30s - 1min) in the first 12 controls, just struggling in the circle.
Started feeling it physically a bit on the longer legs in the open. An annoying bigger mistake at 17 losing 2min where I saw the marsh my control was on but thought it looked way bigger than mine should of been.
Towards 21 started getting pretty tired, had my second gel here and was hoping it wasn't too much further. I died pretty quickly though and my navigation went too.
Just crawling round the last loop trying not to make mistakes and prolong the suffering,
I didn't help myself by not taping my feet so had two nice blisters and also kicked a rock very hard and got a very sore toe.
Was very surprised again to see how near the front of the pack I was in the beginning. I evidently set off too fast but considering how little endurance running and terrain stuff I have been able to do over the last 6 months the bonk was probably inevitable. Turns out I can get in emergency shape quickly for sprint-o, nearly there for the middle but not a tough long race. See how Ennerdale goes next weekend.
