Orienteering 49:00 [3]
Ran Fran's Brown Course on US Champs Cat's Meow map. VERY open woods - great sun and temp - excellent visibility helped.
Kept in very good map contact on controls 1-5 - "all made sense" even when I dropped on 'other' spur. Caught error fast - lost no time. Planned routes and AP's, check off features efficiently. I 'found' the fast ridge that I'd missed last fall on Green which cost me 3 minutes.
Then struggled on short legs: 6-7-8: First, features were smaller and more muddled - harder to read. Second, I'm detecting a tendency of mine to "point and run" on short legs - less attention to planning or reading map detail - it hurts. Third, some pace counting could have helped here - I haven't used that lately. I'm quite sure I found 6 & 7 - definitely missed 8. Stopped short, found 'likely' location, climbed ridge, oops missed it and no desire to climb down. Then easy, good finish.
