Running race 7:57 [4] 1.0 mi (7:57 / mi)

Macklind (downhill) Mile in heavy rain. Fun and nice to know I can still break 8:00 thanks to the slope. :)

Elite were aiming for 4:00 mile. Cold, as I walked back to car, lead pack of 4-5 passed 1/2 mile in 2:00, then down hill. 4:09 won it.

Running warm up/down 7:00 [2]

Uphill warm-up to get heart rate up. Well-timed - except that start race was delayed 10-15 minutes due to timing problems - I did not participate in pre-race 'hop' which some people used to stay warm and loose.

Running 2:02 [3]

5 short laps on indoor Y track at 8 minute pace to feel it as last prep for tomorrow's Macklind (downhill :) ) Mile!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Machines 20:00 [2]

8 machines at Y. Left leg and right lower back felt pretty strong - good recovery.

Cycling 40:00 [2]

To Y to showing of "Fire on the Track" in honor of Pre to home.

Orienteering 1:10:00 [2]

Same WI map. Early part went better - then still struggled in same area. Even walking on return was tough - not sure what caused the quantum difference. Perhaps terrain was more irregular or 'convoluted'. Among 'medium' contour features, it is harder to distinguish them.

Orienteering 1:50:00 [2]

85 minute, then 25 minute excursion on WI Morraine map.

Set a 'course' and tried to maintain a pace this time. First endeavor went from weak to disastrous to okay finish. Latter was partly due to adaptation, partly to more open woods.

Rested, did a second short loop - at last, me and the map started understanding each other :). Gradually, I started anticipating the correct 'vertical change' on ground from the mapped contours - I tend to significantly underestimate the height or depth of 2-3 contour lines.

Still, VERY challenging terrain for me.

Canoeing 2:00:00 [2]

With new Thule car rack finally put together, brought old fiberglass kayak to a chain of lakes where I was BSA camp counselor in 65-67: checked out Red Jack, Scout, Council, and Halfmoon Lakes. It was fun to go in close to shore among reeds and to navigate narrow channel to Halfmoon. We used to take overnight canoe trips from camp to Halfmoon.

Swimming 45:00 [2]

While kayaking, jumped in Scout Lake for a while, then at end circumnavigated Red Jack Lake. Water temp was pleasant - fresh water swimming is sure a lot more enervating than chlorine! Mostly cloudy, cool, only a few drops of rain.
