Walking warm up/down 25:00 [2]

2.5K all uphill walk (bit of a jog) to start in rain - took umbrella. Didn't want to "warm-up" by getting cold and wet for 25-35 minutes preceing the race. Worked well. Stayed warm enough on course.

Orienteering race 59:20 [3]

Satisfied with result on very challenging course, some steep slopes, heavy rain. Visor & headband worked well.

Overall stayed in contact or 'nearly in' contact with map on all controls but #11. Several times when uncertain, I paused and considered 'where have I just been' - I rarely do that:) - it worked well - instead of drifting, I recognized a likely feature and pursued it.
Often cautious early - but it was tough terrain to find a pace anyway.

Splits showed I lost more time than expected on #4 (-3) and #11 (-6) - on the other hand several legs were better than expected - a bit of hesistancy leading to accuracy is okay.

Weird error on #4 - found trail, then could not find a non-existent trail junction - climbed up ugly reeentrant and hillside instead of turning left on trail and using it. ????

#11 was one of few controls I looked ahead to. These is NO easy route or attack point. I thought I had a good plan (use reentratn on left) and trie dot be cautious, but I moved right way too low to check a couple rock piles - drifted up ready to bail to top - found it. Gavin used yellow successfully.

No pace on even gradual uphills - but great last three legs downhill!

Orienteering 1:40:00 [2]

Walked and jogged Boggs Model event in poncho in pouring rain. It really helped to get a sense of the vegetation:
white was wide open pine forest; light green was very passable, low visibility, brush; medium green, slash green, and dark green were worth avoidiing.

No way am I camping here in pouring rain. Zan's friend's let me join her on cabin floor - Sam, Ross, Eddie, Clem, Christina, and Melissa were in the beds. Very comfortable, good company, next to deli, coffee house, and Bick Oven. Clothes got dried every night.
